The Assistant or Associate Professor works with the Program Chair to design and teach program courses ensuring overall program effectiveness. The individual is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion and advises and supervises master’s-degree candidates, actively participates in faculty collaborative learning, and demonstrates scholarly productivity.

Responsibilities Designs, revises, and teaches graduate courses in Touro College GSE Teaching Students with Disabilities Grades 7-12 Generalist ProgramsMaintains knowledge of current middle and high school curricula (Regents and other) including mathematicsExperience with assessment and effective teaching methodologies for students with special needs utilizing a variety of instructional delivery methods instructional and assistive technologies and educational resources for educational equity and accessSupports candidate work, related to the intersection of multilingualism and special educationSupervises candidates during clinical practiceServes as an instructional leader, facilitating and participating with collaborative faculty teams, course revisions, and developing and sustaining the transformative pedagogy in graduate teaching and learningBuilds and maintains clinical partnerships with schools and 7-12 mentors, and contributes to the development of a clinically-rich teacher education preparation programProvides academic advisement to program candidates and outreach to potential candidatesMaintains a current record of scholarly activities and publications as well as professional serviceServes on Graduate School of Education committeesSupports and contributes to program level continuous improvement for national/professional accreditationEngages in successful grant writingUpholds the missions and values of Touro College and the GSEPerforms other duties as assigned Qualifications

Education/ Experience

Earned doctorate in Education or related field ABD with anticipated conferral date within one year of hire consideredSuccessful 7-12 classroom teaching experience of three or more years working with students who have individual education programsSuccessful 7-12 classroom teaching experience of three or more years working with diverse studentsSuccessful experience in assessment and data use in the grades 7-12 classroom with evidence of positive learning and development for diverse groups of studentsExperience in course and program design

Desired Qualifications:

Evidence of success as an educator preparer at the college or university level in traditional classrooms and onlineExperience using Canvas and other technology in educational settingsActive involvement in professional organizationsSuccessful grant writingExpertise in urban educationExperience with students with multiple special needsKnowledge of school and community-based programs and experience building partnerships in diverse communities is highly desirable

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

Commitment to culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogyDemonstrated ability for scholarly productivityExcellent communication teaching and interpersonal/intercultural skills across a wide range of mediums (including social media)Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookProficiency in online learning platforms including Canvas, Adobe Connect, Zoom, and other digital media

Travel

Some travel to Touro College GSE sites New York City including occasional evenings
