Duties begin August 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to: + Direct one or more choral ensembles. + Teach undergraduate and, possibly, graduate courses in choral conducting, choral literature, and other choral topics according to the candidate’s qualifications and needs of the School of Music. + Maintain a record of scholarly/creative activity and make substantive professional contributions to the field of choral music. + Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and service activities, including recruitment and a possible leadership role within Choral Studies. + Other duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music. Positions are subject to availability of funds. Required Qualifications Required Qualifications: Assistant Professor: + Doctorate in choral conducting, choral music education, or related field (must be completed by August 16, 2025) or equivalent professional experience. + Evidence of excellence in choral conducting and teaching at the professional or collegiate level. + A record of achievement in scholarly/creative activity and demonstrated potential for further professional growth. + Potential for success in student recruitment. + Experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds. Associate Professor: In addition to required qualifications for the Assistant Professor rank: + Minimum six years of full-time university teaching. + A record of teaching, scholarly/creative activities, and service commensurate of tenure at Texas State University + A sustained record of achievement in scholarly/creative activity resulting in national recognition and stature. + To be eligible for hire at the Associate Professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the School of Music. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on established university and school standards. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks): + University teaching experience. + National/international stature as a choral conductor. + Conducting background in a variety of choral styles, which could include early music, contemporary, and non-Western musical traditions. + Experience conducting ensembles of different types, such as mixed voices, treble voices, and tenor/bass voices. + Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively.
