Location: Utica, NY Category: Academic Posted On: Mon Nov 4 2024 Job Description: Description of Duties: SUNY Polytechnic Institute's College of Engineering's Department of Engineering invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Robotics Engineering. The successful applicant will reside in the program of either Mechanical Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering. They will support the affiliated ABET accredited B.S. degree programs that address national and regional workforce needs and offers our graduates excellent employment opportunities and grow graduate degree programs in ME or ECE. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with other faculty members around SUNY Poly's interests in Materials, Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing and AI & Information Technology - part of the four thematic areas described in SUNY Poly's 2024 Strategic Plan: Materials, Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing; AI and Information Technology; Smart Infrastructure and Sustainability; and Healthcare & Wellbeing. We are eager to hear from candidates with demonstrated commitments to both teaching and research, and a commitment to cultivating diversity in the university and professional work environment. The successful candidate will 1) Demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching in the area of robotics engineering and in the lower division engineering sciences, 2) Have a track record of outstanding academic and scholarly achievements in robotics engineering, and 3) Will be able to develop an externally funded research program. Preference will be given to candidates with research experience, teaching experience at the collegiate level and a strong background related to and capable of supporting SUNY Poly's emerging interests in engineering and the impact of engineering and STEM related work on modern society. The mechanical engineering program currently consists of five tenure-track or tenured faculty members, whose teaching and research expertise includes thermofluidic engineering, aerodynamics, materials engineering, robotics, design, and manufacturing. The electrical & computer engineering currently consists of four tenure-track or tenured faculty members, whose teaching and research expertise includes communications and signal processing, Terahertz-band wireless communications, and nanoscale optical communications for bio-sensing and bio-actuation. It would be expected that the successful candidate's research interests would complement the interests of existing engineering faculty at SUNY Poly. Specific duties include: 1) Teach and develop curricula for a variety of undergraduate engineering courses in both lecture and laboratory settings. Coursework would include robotics engineering and lower division engineering science. The candidate would be responsible for all aspects of the course including grading and assessment. 2) Develop an externally funded scholarly research program in robotics engineering incorporating graduate and undergraduate students. Funded programs that include academic, industry or government lab/agency collaborations are encouraged. 3) Advise undergraduate students and assist with a variety of student club activities. 4) Work with the engineering faculty to maintain EAC-ABET accreditation. 5) Serve the College and community through outreach activities. During the first two years of the appointment, a reduced teaching load to include two classes per semester can be anticipated, providing an opportunity to establish a research program and develop courses. Other responsibilities include contributing to the assessment and continued development of engineering courses and contributing to the university community through committee service and other activities. Preferred Qualifications: + A Bachelor's Degree in ME or ECE from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized organization.
