The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Performance Head Strength and Conditioning Coach who will serve the Athletic Department. The individual will function as a key university and department leader and core member of the Pitt Athletics Performance Team. They will be responsible for leading, developing, and managing effective individual and group strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes in various sports as well as overseeing assistant strength coaches, the Director of Sports Science, interns, and students in the Pitt Athletics Sports Science program. They will also take a leadership role in athletic department and university committees, along with developing and maintaining key external relationships that will advance a progressive vision for Pitt Athletics performance and training. Responsibilities include the development of sport-specific programming that includes optimization of strength, power, flexibility, mobility, agility, speed, and/or work capacity designed to enhance sports performance to decrease injuries and assist with rehabilitation. The individual must be able to develop student-athletes both physically and mentally. The individual will have direct responsibility oversight of all strength and conditioning and sports science staff, the daily weight room operations, the design of programs, maintenance of accurate inventory and control of weight-room equipment and technology, athlete management system data, and education and enforcement of NCAA, ACC, and department policies on performance-enhancing drugs. Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required for this position.

Provide programmatic vision for Pitt Strength and Conditioning and Sports Science. Lead Assistant Strength Coaches, Director of Sports Science, volunteers, interns, and overall strength and conditioning program with foresight of industry-leading technology and training methods. Oversee short- and long-term planning for Football, Men’s Basketball, Women’s basketball and all sports programs reporting through the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse Weight room, including compliance with the NCAA guidelines for Prevention of Catastrophic Injury and Death in Collegiate Athletes. Measurable goals should be outlined on an annual basis and performance reviews should be completed for each employee supervised. Design and implement annual performance training plans for student-athletes and teams. Work in conjunction with the appropriate coaches, physicians, athletic trainer(s), dieticians, physical therapists, sports psychologists, and mental health support staff to provide elite opportunities for high-performance training. Monitor student-athletes’ progress and use the most up-to-date technology and techniques to meet team and individual needs. Test and assess student athletes’ needs to determine individual capabilities, gauge progress, and improvement, and evaluate opportunities for future growth. Develop and monitor sports performance budget for all strength and conditioning staff, equipment, technology, and training spaces. Work with appropriate vendors, Director of Sports Science, Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and Business Office and Student-Athlete Support Services to develop short- and long-term plans for the maintenance, repair, replacement, and continued safety of weight room and other training equipment and technology. Support department’s drug program and educate student-athletes on dangers of substance abuse. The individual will attend and/or participate in select coaching clinics and other professional development/continuing education opportunities to ensure that he/she understands current industry trends, regulations, and best practices. Regularly interface and collaborate with the campus leadership, including regular correspondence and program development with the Master of Science in Sports Science program and Pitt Innovation Institute.
