Position Summary:
Job SummaryThe Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer and assists with all aspects of the care and well-being of student athletes competing in the University's varsity athletic program. The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries within the University's comprehensive sports medicine program. This role also plays a significant role in addressing issues that can negatively impact student athletes' well-being and athletic performance. This position is defined as an exempt position under FLSA regulations.
Specific Responsibilities Assist in developing protocols for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehab of athletic injuries Communicate with coaches as appropriate regarding injuries and other relevant areas (ex. inclement weather, banned drugs, student athlete wellness) Provide counseling and education to student athletes Develop emergency and other prevention plans for the department, as appropriate Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting Coordinate and schedule medical coverage for home and away competition Responsible for coordinating the institutional drug testing program Work with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes
Required Qualifications:
EducationBachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization required. Master's degree preferred.
ExperienceOne year of previous athletic training or coaching experience required. Experience at the college level and working with student athletes is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Familiarity with NCAA governing rules and policies Knowledge of equipment and modalities specific to sports medicine facility Ability to get along well with others Excellent speaking and writing skills Organizational skills and a self-starter
Additional RequirementsCertified by the Board of Certification of Athletic Trainers (BOC). Commonwealth of PA Department of State Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs Licensed Athletic Trainer (or Eligible). This position requires a valid driver's license, and the ability to drive and qualify under the university's insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle. CPR, AED and First Aid certification is preferred.
Physical DemandMust have the energy and mobility to actively engage with student athletes, coaches, and peers in a sports medicine environment.
