TITLE/GRADE/SALARY RANGE: Assistant Attorney 2, Assistant Attorney 3, or Senior Attorney (NY HELPS POSITION)/ SG-20, SG-22, or SG-25/ $67,897- $111,111 plus location pay of $3,026 NUMBER OF VACANCIES TO BE FILLED: 2 NEGOTIATING UNIT: DC-37 DURATION: Full Time STATUS: PERM (or Temp Pending Commission Action if appointed through NY HELPS) LOCATION & UNIT: 641 Lexington Ave / Office of Legal Affairs SUPERVISOR: TBD Duties: Candidate will defend cases arising under the Rent Stabilization Law, including the amendments of 6/14/19 under L. 2019, CH. 36 aka HSTPA and under Article 78 of the CPLR. Duties would include: + Preparation of Affidavits and Memoranda of Law; + Court appearances; + Obtaining accurate information from court clerks; + Legal research projects that may arise; + Other related tasks, including work as a liaison with the Office of the Attorney General. QUALIFICATIONS: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making competitive temporary appointments. In June 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted back to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Assistant Attorney 2: Admission to the NYS Bar. Assistant Attorney 3: One year as Assistant Attorney 2 or admission to the NYS Bar and one year of subsequent professional legal experience. Senior Attorney: Admission to the NYS bar and two years of post-licensure professional legal experience. COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Reachable on the appropriate eligible list. 70.1/52.6 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS: One year of permanent or contingent permanent service in an eligible title for transfer determined to be similar by Civil Service.
