The Assistant Breeding Project Lead (APL)/Assistant Breeder for Cucurbits will collaborate closely with the Lead Breeders to manage the breeding activities in Cucurbits crops spanning from the initiation of breeding to advanced stage trialing. This role is pivotal in delivering a robust product pipeline for key market segments and encompasses nursery management, conducting hybrid trials, and providing high quality data to facilitate data-driven product advancement. Additionally, the individual will assist the Lead Breeders in integrating the latest tools and technologies into the breeding program.
Job Duties:
Manage breeding trials and activities from sowing to harvest, including data collection, analysis, and database management for melons and watermelons.Oversee hybrid and parental line management, ensuring stability, purity, and IP protection while assisting with marker-assisted inbred conversion projects.Collaborate with internal teams (Biological Operations, Breeding Trial Specialists, genotyping labs) and external cooperators for efficient trial planning, execution, and resource management.Support the Lead Breeder in adopting new technologies and methodologies, including high-throughput phenotyping, predictive breeding, and data visualization tools.Coordinate genotyping activities, organize prototype testing, and manage seed logistics in compliance with internal regulations.Develop market knowledge and breeding targets while maintaining effective communication with the lead breeder and other stakeholders.Explore and implement supporting technologies to enhance the breeding program's efficiency and effectiveness.Company Description

Qualifications
MS or BS degree in Genetics/Plant Breeding or related disciplines with 3-5 years of industry experience; MS candidates preferred.Good knowledge on experiment designs, data management and statistical analysis.Good understanding of R&D processes to identify the critical issues as well as engage with team members to solve problems.Sound knowledge of agronomy, physiology, pathology, plant nutrition and digital tools.Knowledge of automation and high throughput phenotyping tools is a plus.Experience in database management and analysis.
Additional Information
Salary for this role is $66,000 - $100,000 per year.
