Position Summary
Assistant Captain-Of-The-Watch (ACOW) is responsible for assisting the Captain-Of-The-Watch (COW) in managing the operation of the casino vessel to ensure compliance with all applicable USCG and ABS Consulting Inc. regulations and the policies/procedures of Horseshoe Bossier City and Caesars Entertainment. The ACOW takes direction from the COW for routine operations and performs the duties of the COW in the event of a temporary absence of that officer during emergency conditions. The ACOW is also responsible for serving both the external and internal customers by providing a clean, friendly and safe atmosphere on the vessel.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Provides extraordinary guest service, positively effects interactions with external and internal guests and employees, and has the resiliency to deal with difficult guests in all types of business conditions and the ability to work harmoniously with co-workers. Assists the COW in adhering to and enforcing compliance with all regulations established by Louisiana State Police Gaming Division, United States Coast Guard, ABS Consulting, Inc. and other applicable agencies pertaining to riverboat gaming and riverboat operations while adhering to the policies and procedures set forth by Horseshoe Bossier City and Caesars Entertainment. Assists the COW in managing routine and preventative maintenance programs, and all emergency procedures including fire, evacuation, etc. for the riverboat. Assists the COW in ensuring that all emergencies are drilled and documented regularly(every emergency drilled quarterly) to guarantee that employees are proficient in knowing how to handle any emergency. Assists the COW in ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and regulations, as well as state, local and federal ordinances. Participates and contributes toward the initiatives established for the Marine Operations department.
Working Conditions/Essential Functions
Ability to create or read and interpret documents such as riverboat schematics, blueprints, construction drawings and policy and procedure documents. Ability to write routine correspondence and process needed reports. Ability to speak effectively with customers and/or employees. Ability to create or carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems and implement effective solutions. Must be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed. This position operates in a working environment that is subject to varying levels of noise, cold, heat, humidity, vibration, crowds and smoke. Must pass a chemical dependency test as required and work in a drug free environment.Job Qualifications/Essential Functions
The Assistant Captain-Of-The-Watch must:
have three years of experience working as a Deckhand (or higher marine classification) on this riverboat or a similar vessel; successfully complete the Assistant COW Qualification Program; successfully complete two USCG-approved courses: Basic Fire Fighting and Personal Safety/Social Responsibility; successfully complete the State-approved First Aid Program, and maintain an overall Performance Appraisal level of “Successful” or better.
