Assistant Category Manager
Job Description

Position requires four days a week in office at our Raleigh, NC HQ.

Job Description Summary 

The Assistant Category Manager is responsible for supporting the Category Manager in the execution of the Category Management strategy.  Work with suppliers and cross functional teams to develop best in class product offerings. Provide analyses to understand business trends and support company initiatives. Develop product expertise and become the subject matter expert for the products managed including expertise on competitors and manufacturers.  High level individual contributor.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 

Utilize a category management approach to developing efficient product offerings that will maximize sales growth and GMROI performance. Analyze sales & category trends and make recommendations on how to improve. Monitor supplier performance and take corrective action with high sense of urgency. Partner with internal partners to ensure the successful development and launch of category plans, ensuring flawless execution. Become the subject matter expert for the products managed utilizing visits to vendors, AAP stores and DCs, competitor’s stores and websites. Work with suppliers to ensure Advance is first to market with late model application parts including setting up new SKUs, determining pricing and stocking levels.  Work with suppliers, catalog and content team to ensure products are easy to find in our electronic catalog and accurately presented. Improve inventory efficiency and GMROI by reducing redundant SKU coverage where possible Partner with legal and contracts team to set up new suppliers and update contracts with current suppliers. Respond to internal and external customer inquiries quickly to resolve issues and provide best in class customer service. Create PowerPoint presentations to communicate business performance to Sr. Leadership. Collaborate with internal partners including: Pricing, Marketing, Inventory, Independents, Accounting, Communications, Legal, Cataloging, Content, Product Information and Merchandising Analytics. Must be willing to work in a team environment to support overall business objectives.  Must have strong attention to detail. Must be an excellent communicator. Must have ability to multi-task and handle several projects at once. Must have good organization skills. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Undergraduate degree in Business Administration preferred or equivalent work experience 

3+ years of experience in Microsoft Excel, Outlook 

3+ years of experience in Vendor Relations, Negotiations, Financial Literacy/Pricing, Category Management or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

PREFERRED 

1+ years’ experience working in Automotive Aftermarket or National Retailer environment 

1+ years’ experience in a Merchandising or Product Management environment 

1+ years’ experience in presenting to Sr. Leadership 

1+ years’ experience using Business Intelligence Software (Power BI, Answers), and MS PowerPoint 

Minimal travel required.
