As an Assistant Chief Engineer at one of our Alaska seafood processing facilities, is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the plant's machinery and equipment. This includes scheduling and conducting routine maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, and implementing energy-efficiency improvements. They also play a key role in ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. Additionally, they may be involved in projects related to facility expansion or upgrades, and they often supervise a team of engineers and technicians. You will perform a variety of technical tasks, while aiding the Chief Engineer.
Essential Functions/Qualifications
The responsibilities of the position include the following:
Assist in planning, prioritizing, assigning, supervising, reviewing, and participating in the work of staff responsible for facility maintenance. Assist in establishing schedules and methods for providing facility maintenance services; identity resource needs; review needs with Chief Engineer and allocate resources accordingly. Participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. Assist in preparation and administration of the facility maintenance budget; submit budget recommendations; prepare cost estimates; submit justifications for equipment; monitor budget expenditures. Monitor and control supplies and equipment, order supplies and tools, as necessary. Prepare documents for equipment procurement while preparing specifications and contracts for contract services. Coordinate with contractors in providing contract services under Chief Engineer’s instruction. Assist in training or coordinating training in facility maintenance and safety methods, procedures, and techniques. Assist in developing and organizing preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for all facilities and equipment. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; maintain awareness of latest trends and developments in facility maintenance; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs. Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.Competencies

Highly experienced in multiple Engineering skills, including general knowledge of Millwright, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical, Electrical Control, PLC, IT, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Diesel Engines, Rolling Stock, Inventory, Building Maintenance, General Construction, Fabricating and Welding Processes. Experience in manufacturing processes relevant to seafood. (e.g., packaging, freezing, canning). Knowledge in Seafood processing of industrial machinery and facilities maintenance and repair, as necessary. Skills and extensive knowledge and experience in refrigeration theory, operation, and maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on both low temperature and RSW systems. Project research, project planning, project design, project implementation and project parts ordering. Experience with driven machinery certifications such as a forklift, expeditor truck, or flatbed truck which requires a valid driver’s license.Work Environment and Schedule
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods, walk long distances within the facility, and climb stairs or ladders to access equipment. The role often involves lifting and carrying heavy objects, such as tools, machinery parts, and supplies. Additionally, the work environment can be noisy, cold, and wet, requiring the individual to be comfortable in these conditions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
