Assistant Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, Trademark, Copyright & Marketing Claims

This person will be an integral member of the Legal team responsible for leading and managing the Global Trademark & Marketing legal team to protect and leverage the global trademark portfolio and support Ecolab’s businesses on all aspects of marketing legal matters.

What You Will Do:

Provide legal advice on all aspects of trademark and copyright law, domain name, social media, marketing, advertising, and internet issuesManage trademark clearance, providing clients with trademark availability and infringement analysis, risk mitigation strategies, and brand protection options to maximize brand equityDevelop and provide global marketing, trademark and copyright in-house training and educationSupport Ecolab’s businesses on all aspects of marketing legal matters, including claims generation and substantiation, enforcement and defense of claims, promotion and sweepstakes compliance, and global marketing legal strategy and risk mitigationPartner with the Sustainability team to implement and manage the environmental marketing claims review process to ensure compliance with rapidly evolving laws and regulationsWork with members of various internal and external teams on negotiations and drafting of license, sponsorship, and settlement agreementsOwn global responsibility for prosecution and enforcement of trademark portfolio, including anti-counterfeiting effortsAdvise and consult with clients in all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, to identify and assess critical legal issues and strategic opportunities from a global perspective, and provide business partners with an analysis and range of possible legal solutions in the areas of trademark, marketing, and copyright lawResponsible for  trademark, copyright, and domain name due diligence and integration in M&A activityExercise solid, independent judgment related to company legal mattersManage outside counsel and the overall Global Trademark & Marketing legal budget

Minimum Qualifications:

JD degree with strong academic performancePossess 8+ years of experience, preferably at a quality law firm and in-house, and with global experience in managing a large trademark portfolioStrong general knowledge of US and international trademark law, policies, and processesExperience managing a team of paralegalsFamiliarity with FTC and National Advertising DivisionAbility to form strong relationships with business leaders and serve as a counterpart to the Marketing teams, and to communicate with them effectivelyAbility to execute in a complex matrixed environment
