Assistant Civil Engineer

Johnson Service Group is looking for an Assistant Civil Engineer for one of our Clients in San Jose. The Assistant Civil Engineer will support asset management initiatives, analyze data for condition assessments, and assist in developing renewal plans for water utility and watershed assets.
Responsibilities:
Assist in implementing a District-wide system for managing water utility and watershed assets to improve operational efficiency.
Analyze condition assessment (inspection) data to update probability of failure scores in the Asset Management software (Web-AMPT).
Maintain asset-related updates in Web-AMPT and provide monthly status reports to support informed decision-making across teams.
Collect and analyze technical data from reports, databases, and engineering drawings to support asset renewal planning.
Review invoices for master plan projects and assist in tracking project progress and budget alignment.
Contribute to the development of Asset Renewal Plans through data analysis and collaboration with staff.
Support the Watershed Asset Rehabilitation Program by researching projects, prioritizing, and scoping preliminary costs.
Lead data collection on rodent impact by measuring and mapping rodent conditions using GIS.
Assist in developing the Watersheds Asset Management Plan by analyzing data and using asset management tools.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field (environmental, mechanical, etc.).
Valid California Driver License.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Flexible to work both in-office and in-field data collection environments.
Strong interest in public service and community engagement.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills, including tables, power pivot, graphs, and calculations, are preferred.
Ability to interpret construction drawings, engineering reports, and condition assessments.
Skilled in project research, prioritization, and preliminary cost estimation.
