DESCRIPTION
The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Coach - Men's and Women's Fencing (Epee). UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students, earned recognition as one of the world's premier research universities, and is ranked as one of the top-10 public universities in the nation. UC San Diego Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence, sponsors 24 varsity sports, and is a member of the Big West Conference.
Collaborate with the Head Coach to guide and mentor scholar-athletes in competitive collegiate fencing. Assist in developing training programs, organizing practices, and providing technical instruction to enhance athletes' skills and performance. Foster a positive team environment, motivate athletes, and contribute to their overall growth both on and off the strip. Key element of the job is to provide private lessons on a weekly basis, specific to the assigned wea pon, to each scholar athlete.
The incumbent must follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.
QUALIFICATIONS
4 years Coaching experience or 7 years of High-Performance competitive training for Epee.
Ability to interact effectively with others in pursuing departmental objectives, including various student groups and campus organizations.
Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, flexibility and ability to communicate ideas effectively. Ability to foster an environment that supports equity, diversity and inclusion.
Preferred experience in College fencing.
Preferred experience in international fencing at FIE level

This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). This position is a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus. Work schedule will be arranged with Head Coach, but often includes evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must be CPR/AED - First Aid Certified.
