ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER OF FLEET AND LOGISTICS
Job Description The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is seeking a full-time Assistant Commissioner for the Bureau of Fleet Services and Logistics. Reporting to the Associate Commissioner for Support Services, this position requires a skilled administrator and operational leader adept at managing diverse work units in support of emergency services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing planning, budgeting, procurement, personnel management, inventory, and maintenance, for Fleet Services and Logistics and Support. Managing the maintenance and replacement of FDNY’s 2,571 vehicles, including sedans, trailers, forklifts, EMS vehicles, fireboats, and fire apparatus. Supervising the development, repair, and maintenance of onboard medical equipment and specialized tools for emergency services. Developing and implementing the strategic plan for Fleet Services and Logistics in alignment with FDNY’s mission and strategic objectives. Collaborating with agency staff to define transportation, equipment, and onboard needs. Ensuring the creation and implementation of functional and technical specifications, policies, and procedures to address over 24,695 annual work orders across the two bureaus. Leads a workforce of approximately 300 employees across four locations in Queens and Staten Island, encompassing administrative and operational teams. Work closely with FDNY bureaus, including Budget, Grant Monitoring, Management Analysis, and Planning, as well as Support Services such as Buildings, Technology, and Communications, to optimize systems and processes for Fleet Operations and Logistics. Overseeing vendor management and contract administration for apparatus manufacturing, equipment repairs, and specialized tools. Directing daily operations of Fire Tools and Equipment, Medical Equipment, and Medical Supply Units, including the management of Mutual Aid, Recall, and Disaster Caches. Qualifications A Master’s Degree from an accredited college in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, plus three years of satisfactory experience of a nature to qualify for the duties and responsibilities of the position, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position; or 2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory experience of a nature to qualify for the duties and responsibilities of the position, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position; or 3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity.
