We have a new job opportunity for an Assistant Community Center Supervisor at Lincoln Park. This position is responsible for performing intermediate paraprofessional and administrative work under the supervision of the Community Center Supervisor. The employee supervises part-time, seasonal employees and volunteers and works closely with Recreation Services Division staff to facilitate coordination of Center usage and supervises the afterschool program and staff. The work requires the employee to handle a variety of assignments or problems independently and requires outside and inside contacts to carry out organizational programs on matters requiring cooperation, explanation and persuasion. The program work is performed under general policies, procedures and practices and is usually covered by precedents and general supervisory review.
Essential Job FunctionsAssists with the supervision and evaluation of center staff and volunteers and programs.Assists with the overall operation of the community center including opening and securing the facility and safeguarding cash and valuables. Prepares building for programs, operates copy machines, computers and understands fitness equipment operation. Monitors the building for cleanliness and safety and requests building repairs when necessary.Plans, organizes and implements recreation programs and events. Works closely with other Recreation and Parks Division staff to provide adequate room setup, programs supplies and equipment to obtain program goals. Meets with citizen and community groups to identify needs, plan programs and answer questions regarding recreation programs.Monitors recreation activities. Issues equipment. Interprets and enforces rules. Resolves disputes. Enforces emergency and safety procedures, attends a variety training as required.Represents the City and department at the center by providing high quality customer service, explaining center guidelines and activities including memberships programs, assisting patrons in registration process for recreation programs, accepting reservations for the facility rentals including usage, collecting and depositing fees.Assists supervisor in maintaining records of revenues and expenditures, registrants, program participants. Writes reports as required. Assists in budget monitoring and control.Conducts daily inspections of the facility to ensure the safe and effective operation including building equipment and surrounding grounds.Establishes and maintains contacts with facility users.Develop diverse services and activities relevant to the current/changing needs of the community.Plans, organizes, markets and promotes facility programs via internet, brochures, newspaper, magazines, social media and school/public visits.Assists in the coordination of scheduling of staff and center facilities, rooms and equipment for programs.Assists supervisor in developing budget and complies with department user fee policies and develops innovative ways to increase revenue.Assists supervisor in creating, implementing and reviewing policies for the center.Prepares payroll for part-time temporary staff and monthly reporting.Cash handling responsibilities including daily cash balance and bank deposits. Purchasing responsibilities including maintaining a purchasing card and completing reconciliation procedure.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, community organizations and general public.Performs other duties as required.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in recreation, business, or management or closely related field from an accredited university or college plus three (3) years of progressively responsible work in community or recreation center management; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates having experience supervising staff, facilities, users and program participants is desirable.
Ability to ensure that community and citizen input is solicited in reference to program evaluation and changes, using formal and informal surveys, meetings and personal contacts.Ability to work with recreation service division programmers to ensure all community recreation needs are being met.Ability to inspect the facility for safety, cleanliness, and daily operations.Ability to coordinate building use between center operating programs and city wide operation programs.Ability to develop drop in programs of a sporting, recreational and educational nature.Skill in record keeping relating to program participant, program use hours, building use, staffs and volunteers hours.Ability to train and supervisor the program and center staff.
