Your Opportunity

The Assistant Controller supports in supervising and performing duties required for maintaining accounting and statistical records within Smithfield’s Hog Production.  Ideal candidate is detail oriented, proficient in cost accounting and a good communicator.

Responsibilities

Maintains and updates operational procedures and documentation of data flow.

Assists the Controller in producing accurate and timely financial statements.

Acts as the point person for troubleshooting issues and liaison between accounting and field service.

Maintains and improves system controls to ensure data integrity.

Participates in all system implementations or upgrades.

Assists in the month-end closing and financial reporting process including account analyses and reconciliation.

Assists in the annual budgeting process.

Reports any improprieties/problems to management immediately and works to correct problem.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 3+ years of professional accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

Experience acting as a lead by providing training, coaching or mentoring to less experienced staff or through managing a process or project.

Certified Public Accountant, preferred.

Knowledge of accounting software, contact management systems, inventory software, manufacturing software, and Microsoft Office, specifically advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel including use of pivot tables and analytical tools.

Solid understanding of cost accounting concepts.

E1 and Insight experience, preferred.

Solid mathematical and analytical skills.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Requires flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team.

Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees addressing complaints and resolving problems.
