The Assistant Controller position is responsible for the overall management of the Accounting department and Accounts Payable departments. The role will provide day-to-day management of the Accounting department and be responsible for ensuring timeliness and accuracy in preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the close calendar. This role will manage the internal controls for the Accounting and Accounts Payable departments.

 

This role will partner closely with the Controller to ensure that accounting needs of the department are met.. This role will assist in finalizing accounting policies for the department. This role will utilize historical accounting experience to assist with the Company’s financial statement review and analyses.

 

Essential Functions:

Plan, direct and manage accounting activities including cash accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, prepaids and accruals. Implement process to ensure accounting reconciliations are appropriately reviewed and if necessary, approve selected journal entries. Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring for the Accounting & Accounts Payable team; create an environment that inspires, fosters and encourages team members to express differing views, approaches and solutions that deliver the best results for the company.Manage a timely and accurate financial close on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles.Responsible for preparation and presentation of Company’s monthly reporting package. Identify recurring and non-recurring transactions to facilitate management reporting.Responsible for analytic of monthly results in comparison to prior periods. Variances or lack of variances investigated and documented and provided to Controller for review in accordance with monthly close calendar.Develop effective internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial reporting; monitor and enforce internal controls to minimize risk to company.Oversees and manages accounting personnel in preparation of accounting analyses and account reconciliations.Partners with Technical Accounting Senior Manager on the accounting treatment of non-routine transactions. Prepares/reviews journal entries for non-routine accounting transactions for assigned area of responsibility as required.In partnership with Director of Financial Systems, oversee adequacy of Accounting department systems and areas of improvement.Performs complex analysis and related interpretations of accounting records.Assist with the review of the financial statements and the analytical reviewsIdentifies opportunities for streamlining or redesigning processes. Leads, supports and ensures successful execution of routine accounting projects and process improvement-oriented accounting projects.Ensure high-quality account reconciliations are prepared and reviewed monthly.Assist with establishing Accounting policies and guidelines. Ensures execution of established accounting policies and guidelines across the accounting organization.Assist with conducting training, goal management, providing ongoing feedback and coaching.Identify areas of improvement to accelerate monthly close cycle.

Required Skills & Abilities:

Bachelors’ degree in AccountingCPA certification required.8+ years of experience combined in national accounting firm/industry. Experience in industry in accounting leadership role preferred.Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.Netsuite or other ERP experience preferred.Advanced experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).Proven track record of improving accounting processes/tools/technology.Strong leadership and management abilities.Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
