Assistant Controller

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to manage the day-to-day operations of our accounting department. This role involves handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger tasks. The Assistant Controller will support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. This position plays a crucial role in preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to support management decision-making.

ResponsibilitiesManage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports.Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses.Oversee the reconciliation of bank accounts and monitor cash flow.Collaborate with project managers and other departments for accurate project cost accounting and reporting.Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls and financial policies.Manage the preparation of audit work papers and coordinate with external auditors during annual audits.Provide support in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems.Mentor and train accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.Perform financial analysis and reporting as requested by senior management.Essential Skills3-5 years of accounting experience.Strong GAAP experience.Experience with construction accounting.Proficiency in job costing.Experience in sales forecasting and projections.Experience with ERP systems, such as Vista by Viewpoint or similar.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with residential, commercial, or civil construction projects.Ability to handle 15-20 active projects with an average value of $8-10M, occasionally up to $40M.Experience with utilities in the construction space is a plus.Open to senior project accountants or accounting supervisors/managers ready for the next step in their career.Work Environment

This position is based onsite at our Valencia corporate office, working 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST, Monday through Friday. The company handles projects primarily in Southern California, including Los Angeles, North Orange County, and Santa Barbara. The company typically manages 15-20 active projects with an average project size of $8-10M, occasionally reaching up to $40M.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00
