The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the financial functions of Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and overseeing the daily financial operations of the property. The Assistant Controller also plays a key role in the development and management of financial staff, financial audits, and the implementation of policies to enhance operational efficiency and profitability. In addition, the Assistant Controller will collaborate with senior management in strategic decision-making and financial planning to help drive the success and growth of the resort.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Ensure adherence to all company policies, procedures, and compliance regulations.Assist in managing the financial operations and all accounting functions of the resort.Ensure timely preparation and issuance of the Daily Operating Report (DOR).Oversee property management (LMS) and Point of Sale (P.O.S.) systems.Supervise Staff Accountants, Revenue Audit, and Hotel Billing Coordinator, including their recruitment, training, and performance reviews.Manage the General Ledger in accordance with GAAP, and support Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Casino Audit functions.Review and monitor daily bank account activity, identifying discrepancies and reporting variances to senior management. Ensure monthly reconciliation of bank accounts with the General Ledger.Support staff in preparing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.Prepare intercompany invoices and assist with collections as necessary.Generate and distribute weekly comp expense reports to management.Collaborate with the Financial Controller in the preparation of monthly financial statements and address inquiries from department management.Implement and enforce accounting policies and control procedures.Lead the coordination of new accounting systems and control implementations.Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Financial Controller or senior management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee recruitment, training, and team development to ensure a high-performing staff.Foster a positive work environment by ensuring team members work in a safe, compliant, and effective setting.Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and provide coaching to develop the team.Enforce organizational policies and procedures, ensuring standards of productivity and performance. Qualifications Analytical financial and accounting experience. Minimum 10 years of accounting and 5 years management experience. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to read and analyze information detailing assets, liabilities and capital, and prepare P&L statements. Basic knowledge of accounting practices and principles. Skill in the use of PC and related software applications. Competent in the use of computer spreadsheets, database and mainframe applications in a Windows environment. Knowledge of federal and state tax laws. Ability to understand and process complex paperwork. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to tactfully and diplomatically deal with the public and staff. Must possess excellent business sense and high professional ethics.  Must possess a high regard for guest service and team member relations, with the ability to perform in fast paced and goal oriented environment.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business or comparable work experience plus ten years general accounting experience. Five years management experience required. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Exceptional reading, writing and public speaking skills are important to the successful conduct of this position.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical reports, general business periodicals, professional journals or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, rates, ratio, proportions and percentages. 

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to apply legal, regulatory and procedure doctrine, concepts and policy to practical situations. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS

Must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation to obtain and maintain a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency. CPA, CHAE, CIA, or CMA or other Accounting certification preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The team member frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The team member is occasionally required to sit. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast paced work environment and the position requires the ability to cope with it. The casino environment has moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment.

 

WORKING HOURS:

Because we are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, most positions require flexibility in scheduling and may require Team Members be available for evenings, weekends, holidays and special events. A typical workweek is 40 hours and normal work schedules may vary based on business needs and may include scheduled shifts Monday through Sunday. Position may require overtime.
