Assistant Controller
Description Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support our financial operations in a construction company. This role is responsible for assisting in the management of accounting functions, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting, job cost tracking, and financial analysis. Key Responsibilities: + Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions. + Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements in compliance with GAAP. + Support the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. + Maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements. + Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making. + Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations. + Work closely with external auditors and tax professionals to ensure compliance and smooth audits. + Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial reporting accuracy. + Monitor job costing and project financials to ensure accuracy and profitability. + Ensure compliance with construction industry regulations, including contract accounting and lien waivers. + Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting staff. + Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller. Requirements Qualifications & Requirements: + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. + CPA or CMA preferred. + 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role. + Experience in the construction industry is required. + Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls. + Familiarity with job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting. + Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or similar) and Microsoft Excel. + Experience with multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions is a plus. + Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. + Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines. + Effective communication and leadership skills. Work Environment & Schedule: + Fully in office + Extended hours may be required during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings.
