What Success Looks Like In This Job
To assist in meal preparation and other aspects of food service for the Adams County Head Start.
Examples of Duties for Success
+ Assist in preparation of meals for the Head Start centers.
+ Assist in maintaining inventory of all food and equipment.
+ Assist in proper storage of supplies and foodstuffs according to county health department regulations.
+ Assist in maintaining food service facilities, storage areas, and equipment in a clean, organized, and sanitary manner.
+ Assist in the delivery foodstuffs and supplies to other Head Start Centers.
+ Assist with receiving weekly food service orders.
+ Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
+ Attend and participate in extracurricular Head Start events as requested.
+ Assist in ordering food products and supplies.
+ Assist in planning nutritious menus.
+ Assist in record keeping to ensure compliance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations.
+ Assist and participate in planning and executing child/parent nutrition education programs.
+ Assist in accommodating children requiring special diets and making diet modifications as needed.
+ Deliver meals from central kitchen to other Head Start centers.
+ Perform minor maintenance on Head Start delivery vehicles.

Qualifications for Success
+ Food preparation tasks such as washing, cutting, and assembling food and ingredients.
+ Food preparation methods such as baking, boiling, steaming, and braising.
+ Proper English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
+ Basic mathematical principles.
+ Precisely weigh and measure food.
+ Operate a variety of food preparation and service equipment.
+ Follow and execute recipes for high-volume institutional batch cooking.
+ Learn and apply the policies/procedures of the Head Start program and the Head Start Performance Standards.
+ Learn pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
+ Learn procedures regarding efficient, sanitary, and safe food handling practices.
+ Carry out meal preparation.
+ Perform cleaning of kitchen, equipment, and storage areas.
+ Understand and follow oral and written directions.
+ Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
+ Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

More Qualifications for Success
+ Experience:Six (6) to twelve (12) months of high-volume institutional-based (schools, correctional, and/or health care facilities) cooking experience preferred.
+ Education and Training:High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
+ License or Certificate:Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.
+ Background Check: Must pass multiple criminal background checks and Central Registry check. A fingerprint check may be conducted.
+ Other:
+ Must complete physical examination and TB test upon hire.
+ Ability to stand for a long period of time, lift up to 50 pounds, withstand exposure to heat, cleaning chemicals, noise, and hazards from kitchen appliances.
Ability to obtain, maintain, and ensure continued access to State and County systems in strict compliance with all applicable county and state regulations, policies, and user agreements.
