Appointment Type Full Time Regular Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Assistant Coordinator, Residence Life – WP is a live in administrator who assists in the oversight of all aspects of physical operation of the housing system. The Assistant Coordinator, Residence Life – WP is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities for students, summer camps and conferences, and the University community. The Assistant Coordinator, Residence Life – WP provides leadership to residence life staff and assists in the development of policies and procedures and improvement to facilities which enhance the students’ living environment and academic experience. Description of Primary Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

1. Provides oversight to the residence hall by living in the housing facility to maximize availability to students and staff and increase responsiveness to situations. Maintains weekly office hours, weekend duty, area coverage, and vacation duty as assigned by the Coordinator of Residence Life and/or Director of Student Life and Development. Promotes interaction with students on a daily basis through their requests, staff referrals, conferences and by being proactive in serving the students.

2. Assists with appropriate and timely responses to system-wide or building-specific needs, emergencies, or other situations requiring facilities consultation or assistance. Provides support and assistance to residents by responding appropriately to all crisis and emergency situations and performs necessary action and follow-up.

3. Assists in the hiring and employment of qualified Resident Assistants by participating in the Resident Assistant selection process; fall, mid-year, and spring training workshops; and providing on-going training, supervision, and evaluation of staff.

4. Assures proper coverage of the residence hall through supervision of the scheduling of duties for Resident Assistants, student workers, and all other hall employees under direct supervision.

5. Ensures proper maintenance of the residence hall facilities (interior and exterior) by conducting regular and frequent inspections of residence halls and apartments and maintaining effective working relationships with Facilities Maintenance staff.

6. Ensures accuracy of occupancy records by maintaining hall counts; processing room assignments and changes for their assignment; processing withdrawals from the facility; and completing all required paperwork accurately, promptly, and in the manner prescribed by the Coordinator of Residence Life.

7. Assists in oversight of electronic access control including support of staff responsible for data entry and card replacement.

8. Promotes a positive and supportive environment in the residence hall through daily availability to residents; guiding individuals who seek assistance or are referred by other staff members regarding academic, personal, or career concerns, by referring students to appropriate University resources; communicating information about activities and opportunities on campus and in the community, and serving as a liaison between the student and the Residence Life/Student Life and Development office.

9. Promotes an atmosphere in which due process rights are observed and students are held accountable for their actions and encouraged to make informed decisions by responding to all violations of Residence Life and University policy, enforcing Departmental and University policies, processing student conduct reports in a timely fashion, conducting effective conferences with students, maintaining accurate records with regard to student conduct concerns, and assisting in the implementation of the peer conduct system.

10. Enhances the safety and security of the residence hall by accurately accounting for and distributing door access; promptly processing and servicing repair needs for fire extinguishing systems and building equipment; participating in periodic fire drills; and by disseminating appropriate information on personal safety, fire prevention, and emergency procedures.

11. Promotes a clean and well-maintained living environment for the residents by coordinating maintenance and custodial needs with the Coordinator of Residence Life by promptly processing requests for maintenance repairs and custodial needs with appropriate follow-ups.

12. Helps to provide a safe and secure living environment by providing residents with information of safety and security issues and assisting police and campus safety specialists to meet safety and security objectives.

13. Meets the requirement for accountability of housing equipment and furnishings during the annual inventory by maintaining accurate and thorough record-keeping and reporting procedures throughout the year.

14. Initiates purchase requisitions for needed equipment, supplies, and necessary furnishings.

15. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

16. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.

17. Supports the overall operation of the Department of Student Life and Development, Department of Residence Life by performing all other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Residence Life and/or the Director of Student Life. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Education: An Associate’s degree is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: At least one year of experience as a Resident Assistant or other areas of residence life and housing administration with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred; experience in residence life programming and an element of student conduct is preferred. Knowledge of basic custodial and maintenance practices with successful experience in management, organizational, and administrative responsibilities is preferred.

Skills: Management skills such as problem solving and decision making, as well as organizing operations, mail operation, and supervisory skills are required. Ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously with attention to detail with accuracy and efficiency is required. Ability to respond to emergency situations, provide problem-solving and evaluation of crisis and emergency situations is required. Ability to compose written communications, guidelines, and procedures, as well as the ability to clearly communicate verbally to all personnel involved with the daily operation of residence life is required. Ability to design and implement educational and social programs for residence life audience is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Effort: The ability to lift at least 50 pounds is required. This position inspects the physical condition of all residence halls and evaluates the quality of the work performed by custodial and maintenance staff. The ability to move throughout all areas of the residence halls is required and includes taking stairs, climbing ladders, crouching, squatting, and other similar mobility is required. The ability to personally respond to emergency and assistance calls promptly, and ability to complete area coverage rounds in a reasonable time period is required.
