Assistant Corporation Counsel I - Collections, Ownership & Administrative Litigation Division

The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel (ACC I) in the Collections, Ownership and Administrative Litigation (COAL) Division.

COAL is responsible for collecting debts due and owing to the City; acquiring properties through lien foreclosures; determining property owners and responsible parties in preparing for litigation for health and safety violations of the Municipal Code; and bankruptcy matters involving the City. The ACC I will be responsible for handling a wide variety of matters which may include the collection of debts and recovery of money owed to the City, abstracting, compiling, and examining documents from public records and reviewing chains of title to identify property owners and responsible parties and litigating those decisions in the Department of Administrative Hearings. The ACC I will also help develop and implement procedures and protocols, conduct law clerk training, and work on a variety of special projects. The ACC I will work under the general supervision of the Deputy, Chief, and Supervising Attorney of the Division and assist in the counseling of various Client Departments.

Preference may be given to candidates possessing the following:

Experience in determining real property ownership;Experience in reviewing and analyzing property deeds, mortgages, liens and foreclosures;Experience in project management;Experience in collections matters.
