This position will act as a second project manager for the DDC Unit under the DDC Engineer and will help in managing any project task while also attending site visits, preconstruction conferences, coordinating with the survey crew, and final walk throughs. This position will manage and coordinate all aspects of project development including planning and design while aiming to keep projects within scope, schedule, and budget. This position will oversee design and review of all disciplines related to the preparation of project plans using CADD (MicroStation and GeoPak) for Division let, STIP, Spot Safety, High Hazard, Direct Allocation and any other projects assigned to the Division 13 DDC unit. This position will assist the DDC Engineer, and design staff as needed with the more complex designs of the unit. This position will oversee and track the schedules for DDC projects. This position may be responsible for generating estimates and helping with developing conceptual designs that pertain to the DDC unit. This could be for potential future projects as well as currently funded projects. Estimates involve coordinating with the RTE, DTE, DDC Engineer, Utility Coordinator, ROW Agents and other internal NCDOT units to ensure all four project phases (PE, ROW, UTIL and CON) are accounted for. Must be able to understand funding designations (Hi/Lo, Economic Development, Spot Safety, High Hazard, HSIP, Spot Mobility, etc.). This position is responsible for understanding DPOC documents which entails the understanding of NCDOT standard provisions, standards drawings, engineers estimate, creating/maintaining special provisions and developing contact times while coordinating with DM-STIP project managers, DTE, DDC Engineer and Contracts Engineer. Must be able to perform plan reviews and discuss roadway engineering concepts for the DDC Unit and DM-STIP Unit. Additional Expectations: Possess working knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment. Must be proficient at plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and be familiar with survey instruments and procedures necessary to interpret and approve the stake-out of line grade for roadways and structures. Communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractor's personnel, and the public. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision from the Resident Engineer. Work is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Safety toe shoes required.
