Job Summary
The Assistant Dean of the Prelicensure programs in the School of Nursing holds a ranked faculty position at the MGH Institute of Health Professions and reports directly to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. The Assistant Dean provides leadership for the ABSN and DEN prelicensure programs and is a member of the administrative leadership team of the School.
Qualifications
Responsibilities include working collaboratively with the SON Leadership team to:
Project the need for faculty mixes and participate in hiring and orientation of faculty and term lecturersProject clinical placement needs and collaborate with the School’s Director of Clinical Affiliations and the clinical education team to develop partnerships with clinical agencies including exploring creative options for meeting the needs of the prelicensure studentsOversee program evaluation processes and implementation of program change based on evaluation dataProvide curriculum leadership and oversee compliance with CCNE accreditation standards between site visits and in compiling information for self-study reportsEnsure compliance with all IHP and national standards for the programFacilitate development of faculty in the areas of teaching, research, clinical practice and serviceMentor new and novice faculty; assist faculty to develop work-plans and evaluate performance based on established goalsProvide leadership for the ABSN and DEN prelicensure level programs’ expansion/growthServe with other members of the SON Leadership Team to provide administrative leadership in the absence of the Dean as assignedDirect and supervise the work of the faculty to ensure curriculum implementation and supportSpecific Duties Include:
Provide leadership for prelicensure education within the school of nursing:
Prelicensure Programs Administration
Analyze resource needs for the Prelicensure programs and make recommendations to the Dean and Associate DeanMonitor the capacity of the program and determine the appropriate faculty mix and enrollment as part of the Leadership TeamRecruit, hire, oversee, and evaluate term lecturers in prelicensure programs.Participate in budget planning/fiscal management as requestedEstablish enrollment targets in consultation with others and coordinate recruitment activities, admissions, and retention of prelicensure students. Collaborate with the Office of Enrollment Services and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to manage enrollmentProvide leadership in collaboration with the SON Leadership team regarding overall program direction and new program developmentParticipate as a member of the SON Leadership team in setting priorities for the School of Nursing and assist in identifying and implementing new initiativesServe as a resource regarding nursing education at the prelicensure level and maintain communication between the Graduate, School of Nursing, and Institute committeesProvide staff oversight and participate in planning of special program ceremonies, events, and student activitiesKeep abreast of changes in RN licensure examinations and procedures required by governing bodiesPrepare reports and drafts of proposals as requested by the Dean and Associate DeanMonitor collection of student feedback data on program satisfaction measures (per evaluation plan) and program outcomes measuresRepresent the program to the wider Mass General Brigham network, other communities, and alumnae as appropriateCollaborate with the Assistant Dean of Student Success to develop and maintain a timely, effective response to concerns raised by faculty and/or students and to maintain a process of quality improvementConduct regular external scans of developments and opportunities in baccalaureate nursing educationWork collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Affiliations to develop and retain appropriate clinical placements for prelicensure students, to expand clinical opportunities for students, and to engage in continuous evaluation of clinical placementsImplement and support efforts to attract and retain students from culturally diverse backgroundsDemonstrate leadership in promoting interprofessional activities for faculty and studentsFaculty Administration
In collaboration with members of the Leadership Team, project faculty and program needs, and participate in assigning faculty workloadsConduct frequent program faculty planning meetings and oversee the implementation of the curriculumFacilitate faculty research and scholarship development in line with individualized faculty work plans and goalsParticipate in faculty recruitment activities and orientationConduct annual faculty evaluationsAssign, mentor, and assist faculty with student advisementSchool of Nursing and Institute Governance
