Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Assistant Dean III for the Office of Academic Services. The Assistant Dean III for Transfer Student Services reports directly to the Associate Dean and Director of the Office of Academic Services and the Assistant Dean and Director for Transfer Student Services. The Assistant Dean III is a member of the specialized staff concentrating on transfer students. They are expected to provide high-level, creative insight into developing and refining appropriate programs and other services that meet the special needs of this group of undergraduates.


Among the key duties of the position are the following: Communicates effectively with students through various methods to ensure a successful transition to the School of Arts and Sciences. Evaluates transfer students’ academic records and ensures that the proposed transfer courses are in compliance with applicable state law and University and SAS policies. Interacts extensively with chairs and other faculty in academic departments in order to make informed decisions about whether to approve transfer credit. Responsible for evaluating continuing students’ requests for transfer credit, including reviewing the pre-approval applications. Responsible for selecting, training, and evaluating transfer students to serve as Transfer Mentors. Monitors the dedicated transfer email box and ensuring that responses to students’ inquiries are done accurately and on a timely basis. Is charged with supervising the officers, guiding the student group, and planning and implementing the induction ceremony for the Tau Sigma National Honor Society, an honor society devoted to transfer students. Provides accurate and sound academic advising to students who come to the SAS Advising Centers. Participates in Office of Academic Services programs and processes, as well as presentations to the university community. Participates in university-wide, SAS-wide, and OAS-wide duties and functions and to provide coordination, advice, and supervision.
