Summary

Are you interested in being a part of the Comparative Medicine Core Leadership Team at Moffitt Cancer Center? This is a fantastic opportunity to help build a new team for the existing facility and the new state-of-the-art facility from the ground up. The new Speros campus will have a 30,000 sqft Comparative Medicine state-of-the-art Facility, which will complement MCC’s existing, fully accredited 28,000 sqft facility. 

 

Position Highlights:  

Moffitt is building a new Comparative Medicine Core (CMC) and is seeking an Assistant Director of Education and Quality Assurance. As a key member of the CMC team, the Assistant Director will develop and implement training programs, oversee audit and evaluation processes for compliance, and develop a post-approval monitoring program. 

 

The Ideal Candidate: 

Possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 

Will have excellent oral and written communication skills, combined with strong organizational abilities. 

Must have a solid understanding of applicable animal welfare guidelines and AAALAC standards. 

Experience working with external regulatory agencies and accreditation groups.  

Should have experience in designing, implementing and developing staff education and training programs for staff working in research. 

 

Responsibilities:  

Quality Assurance and Compliance – Partner with other Comparative Medicine Core leadership in internal assessments, regulatory inspections, and accreditation site visits. 

Training Program - Oversees the development and implementation of educational and instructional programs. Incorporates multimodal training processes including inanimate models in the training pathway, and stays current with new inanimate models and multimodal training processes. 

Staff Oversight - Develops and implements training pathways, ensures direct/indirect reports have development opportunities and provides coaching/mentorship. 

Budgetary Planning and Adherence - Design an annual training budget and algorithm for department growth and cost increases. 

 

Credentials and Qualifications:  

Master's degree in quality assurance, animal science or related field is required with seven (7) years of experience in animal-based research, inclusive of: 

five (5) years of direct report management experience 

five (5) years of developing training materials in research setting and the development and implementation of educational and instructional programs for the appropriate care and use of laboratory animals 

Experience in quality assurance (QA)/regulatory experience including oversight of audits is required. 

Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) is preferred.
