Assistant Director, Career Coaching

The Assistant Director, Career Coaching will provide career-related services and employment assistance programming for University of Miami Herbert Business School graduate students and support the mission of the Unanue Graduate Career Advancement Center.  The Assistant Director will provide guidance in areas of personal and professional development for students in the assigned program(s) and facilities.

JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                       

Provides individual career and professional development coaching to graduate business students and alumni regarding career planning and job searches, including self-assessment, resume (written and video) and cover letter review, interview preparation, professional skills development, and career research and options. Documents coaching sessions in department system including notes, outcomes, and follow-up assignments. Performs outreach functions with groups such as students, faculty, staff, alumni and employer recruiters to effectively engage in career-related activities. Partners with employers to develop full-time, internship, or co-op opportunities for students. Maintains current knowledge of recruiting trends, industry characteristics, job specifications/requirements, industry vocabulary, and industry/employer culture. Assists with the collection and reporting of information, statistics, and data on an ongoing basis and for various annual reports.  Leverages data to help department achieve student employment goals.  Teaches two sections of Management Career courses per semester (class formats may include: online/asynchronous, online/synchronous, or in-person) using uniformly-created lesson plans, syllabi, assignments, presentations, and learning management site (Blackboard). Utilizes career coaching skills to build relationships with students in your classes through assignment feedback, grading, and in-class activities. Utilizes instructional technology to create an effective and engaging learning environment. Demonstrates technology proficiency, maintains current career platform tools, utilizes and leverages tools to track engagement, outcomes and job postings (i.e. 12Twenty, Quinncia, Relish, Interstride, C2C, and other relevant platforms). Teaching other career-related courses and workshops for academic and non-academic credit will be required on an as-needed basis and may take place outside the normal workday based on the academic calendar and classroom availability. Works some evening and weekend hours for career-related events and periodically travels to conferences and workshops.

QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                    

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

MBA/MS degree preferred

Certification and Licensing:

Not Applicable

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (i.e. corporate/industry, recruiting, career coaching).

Finance, marketing or higher education experience preferred.

A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Knowledge of business and management principles.

Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.

Strong presentation and follow-up skills required.

Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills and convey empathy.

Must be an energetic self-starter who will seek out new and creative ways to strengthen the school’s connections to industry.

Ability to think ‘outside of the box’.

Must convey a highly professional demeanor and be a team player.

Must have the ability to handle a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects/tasks with varied deadlines, and streamline processes and procedures creating efficient operations.

Entrepreneurial mindset and passionate about student success.

Knowledge of data-driven decision making, including quantitative analytics preferred.

Demonstrated proficiency in career and technology platforms (i.e. 12Twenty, Quinncia, Relish, Interstride, C2C, etc.).

Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Strong editing ability.

Multilingual a bonus.
