Assistant Director, Diversity Education and Bias Response
Location: Binghamton, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Mon Aug 19 2024 Job Description: Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3) Salary: $68,000 - $70,000 The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director for Diversity Education and Bias Response. This is a full-time in-person position that will primarily supervise the coordinator of diversity education and coordinator of restorative practices within UDiversity Educational Institute. Reporting to the Executive Director of Equity, Access, and Diversity Education, the Assistant Director will assist with components of bias education initiatives to include assistance with bias response coordination for students. The UDiversity Educational Institute provides professional training and guidance for engagement around issues of equity, social justice, and restorative practices for the campus community with a focus on Binghamton University's values of Unity, Identity, and Excellence. The duties of the Assistant Director for Diversity Education and Bias Response are as follows: Leadership and Program Development (55%): + Identify current research trends and incorporate creative content to design training curriculum that reflects best practices in the field of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. + Consult and collaborate with key stakeholders to identify training or workshop needs to address professional, social, and interpersonal development for faculty, staff, students and community organizations. + Assist with facilitating trainings and workshops. Administrative (25%): + Supervise 2 full-time coordinators and assist with the supervision of student employees and/or interns. + Assist with the scheduling of diversity education workshops and the implementation and planning for capacity building (e.g. training development). + Work closely with the Executive Director to collect, analyze, and interpret data from bias incident reports and diversity trainings to assess and track trends for annual reporting and strategic planning. + Participate in professional development opportunities to develop leadership skills and advance knowledge in DEI related topics. Bias Response and Communication (20%): + Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director will assist with providing case management coordination for student bias incident reports to address inquiries related to bullying, harassment, and/or discrimination. Coordination includes conducting interviews with involved parties and determining appropriate recommendations of services and/or trainings in a neutral manner. + Communicate effectively with campus constituencies as it relates to programming needs and bias-response education. Job Requirements: + Master's degree in education/student affairs, social work, counseling, or related field + Management and leadership experience + Experience in diversity education and/or bias response + Experience working collaboratively with key stakeholders and units within an organization Preferred: + Experience in a higher education setting + Experience teaching classes, and designing curriculum for courses or training workshops + Experience with case management + Experience with adult education Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Additional Information: Offers of employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check and verification of degree(s) and credentials.
