Assistant Director, Fitness and Wellness

Requirements

The Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness plans, coordinates, and implements various fitness and wellness programs for students, faculty, staff, and community members, in collaboration with the Campus Recreation fitness and wellness team and across Student Affairs departments. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing two comprehensive Intramural Department program areas within Campus Recreation, including intramural/extramural sports and gaming programs which consist of an array of leagues and tournaments. As part of the core values of the University, the Assistant Director, Fitness & Wellness must have an appreciation for the critical importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and is expected to assist in leading a department that fosters a welcoming environment that promotes and celebrates all dimensions of difference and diversity. This expectation will be executed with innovative programming for students, diverse applicant pools for employment opportunities, and working closely with campus partners to ensure these values are part of a holistic approach to recruiting diverse student employees and highlighting an inclusive atmosphere. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

Provide support as needed to the Campus Recreation Professional Staff, directly overseeing the Group Fitness Program.

Supervise the Intramural and Recreational Sports Coordinator, assisting with the administration of the Personal Training Program as needed.

Teach 2-3 group fitness classes per week each semester and conduct one-on-one personal training sessions as needed.

Directly oversee 30+ part-time student and non-student Group Fitness Instructors, 10+ part-time student Kehoe Field Attendants, and indirectly supervise 40+ part-time student employees in the Intramural Sports Department.

Assist with marketing and advertising of all fitness, wellness, intramural, and extramural programs, approving weekly payroll for the Group Fitness Department and assisting with weekly payroll for the Intramurals Department.

Develop, manage, and oversee the Intramural Sports budget, making primary recommendations for the appropriate use of the group fitness equipment budget.

Housed under the Division of Student Affairs, Georgetown University Campus Recreation plays a crucial role in providing co-curricular opportunities for the Georgetown University Campus and Community. Dedicated towards the cultivation of the ‘whole’ person, Campus Recreation provides a variety of opportunities for all students to enhance their university experience through recreation, fitness, and well-being. Through our various sport and recreation programs, students are given the opportunity to connect with each other and experience personal growth in a fun, comfortable, and challenging yet safe environment.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human/sport science, physical education, or recreation management

3-5 years of experience in a recreational, fitness, or wellness field – preference for experience overseeing recreational sports, fitness, and wellness programs

Certification from an accredited organization such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, Mad Dogg Athletics,and/or NASM in related program areas

Certification in CPR/First Aid within 60 days of hire

Knowledge and experience with safety and risk management regarding a recreational/fitness setting

Demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to lead fitness-based activities and training

Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, organization, management, leadership

Proven commitment to student and staff development and customer service

A demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and meet deadlines

Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team and to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions

Motivation and energy for leading program operations to the next level

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
