Assistant Director, Neurology
**JOB DESCRIPTION** **This is for Future Opportunity** The Assistant Director provides operational and administrative support to physicians and practice administrators regarding policies and procedures, billing related training. Serves as a liaison with all levels of Mount Sinai Medical Center to ensure efficient delivery of non-financial services to practices of participating physicians. **RESPONSIBILITIES** _Duties and Responsibilities_ : 1. Plans and schedules work for staff to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Optimize exam utilization and physician/APP session 2. Ensures adequate staffing for unexpected/emergency coverage 3. Provides work direction, guidance, coaching and training for staff. 4. Establish, review and revise work processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective administrative activities; create standard operating procedures for all workflows 5. Establishes practice site procedures to ensure the efficient flow of input data and FPA - Monitoring metric measures for access, scheduling, denials, check in/out and volume 6. Serves as liaison with Physicians and the on call scheduling needs – i.e Amion 7. Makes recommendations regarding fiscal and staffing requirements of the unit to assist in the preparation of budgetary recommendations. – assures front desk tasks are accounted for with appropriate staffing. 8. Compiles information reflecting expenditures and develops comparisons. i.e. physician travel, CME, Dues and Conferences 9. Assists in the development of new methods, procedures and/or processes to increase efficiency and to improve service deliver, production, equipment performance, scheduling and quality control. For example – maximizing use of equipment amongst providers – ie ultrasound and emg machine 10. Establishes and maintains liaison with other departments, units or care centers, as well as within own department, to ensure effective coordination of work activities. Collaborate closely with System partners and local leadership 11. Fosters an environment of open communication and teamwork in support of the department and organization's goals and objectives. Create and foster strong working relationships with the practice and ensure practice issues are resolved in an efficient manner. Assuring Patient and Employee satisfaction are optimal – inclusive of physician engagement. Hold monthly staff meetings to continue to foster communication 12. Act as operational liaison for practice when/if implementing Epic or other electronic medical systems and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure alignment with both strategic and tactical organizational priorities; EPIC super-user and uses reporting/dashboards to make operational decisions. 13. Ensures compliance with department and organization policies & procedures. Assure staff are using EPIC appropriately and assuring clinical supplies meet the needs of the providers - i.e collaborate with nurse and technician on ordering supplies and hand hygiene logs 14. Manages, supervises, and coordinates various personnel activities including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, and training, disciplining, labor union rules and making salary increase recommendations. Weekly huddles with staff 15. Coordinates planning, training and implementation of new practices. Works with Director of Practice Operations and practice administrators to develop and prepare the billing implementation plan billing to maximize revenue opportunity. Ie working with coding and revenue team to assure the providers are maximizing billing and reviewing denials 16. Reviews and evaluates manual and computerized practice office support system such as scheduling, telephone answering, dictation, medical records, 17. Collaborate with Site Chair to assure that inpatient needs are in order. Ie. Assisting with residents and/or moonlighters 18. Partners with Neuroscience (Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy) for seamless care of patients. Assists in coordinating patient flow between multiple complex sites 19. Initiates and processes all faculty and voluntary related paperwork in conjunction with system colleagues 20. Performs other related duties. **QUALIFICATIONS** Education: associate degree in business administration or related field/ Bachelor's degree preferre Experience: Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in an outpatient practice setting. Medical insurance experience including medical office administration, benefit verification, and authorizations. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
