Assistant Director, Pre-Professional Advising

Job Description:

Pre-Professional Advising at Brown University focuses on supporting students as they pursue careers in the fields of law or healthcare. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of the College for Co-Curriculum, and in collaboration with other pre-professional advising team members, the Assistant Director of Pre-Professional Advising counsels undergraduates and recent alumni with demonstrated interest in pursuing education and careers in law and in a broad range of health professions, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, physician assistant, and nursing, among other fields. In addition to individual and group advising, the Assistant Director also oversees the development and execution of events, workshops and programs related to pre-professional advising. They will also work closely with students and recent alumni to evaluate and strengthen their application materials for law and health professions schools, and will participate in the management of these application materials as students prepare to apply to  professional schools. Finally, the Assistant Director will contribute to the administrative life of the College, also serving as an exploratory academic advisor in the context of Brown’s Open Curriculum.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience in college or university-level academic settings, such as academic advising, career counseling, or teaching is preferred.

Job Competencies

Student-centered approach to advising and mentoring, with particular attention to supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds.Successful experience in academic program administration, including planning and development, implementation, and assessment.Initiative and ability to work independently and as a collaborative member of a team.Proven verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to function effectively in a complex environment.Proven analytical skills, and demonstrated ability to use sound judgment.Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities.Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community. Demonstrated ability to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in executing job responsibilities.Experience and/or familiarity with requirements and applications for graduate schools for healthcare and legal professions strongly preferred.

Additional Information

The position requires occasional evening and weekend work for critical program, College, and University events.
