Position Description\: 
Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Life – Residential Living, the Assistant Director of Residential Life – Staff Selection & Development (ADSSD) serves as a member of the Residential Life leadership team and shares in the development and management of the residential life program. The position requires frequent and meaningful interaction with residential students, parents/families, faculty, administrators, and community partners.

The Assistant Director has essential functions related to the recruitment/selection, on-boarding/training, on-going development and evaluation of all Residential Life staff, as well as functions related to administrative and project management tasks, student behavior and incident response, and other general responsibilities.  These responsibilities also support UHRL and DoSA, and their shared commitment to student success.  The Assistant Director leads the recruitment and selection efforts of approximately 200 student staff and will assist with processes for 30 full-time staff.  

The Assistant Director implements on-boarding, training, and evaluation initiatives for all levels of staff which encourage the creation of an educational environment in support of the holistic development of residential students on Temple University’s Main Campus. Manages several administrative, human resources related functions for the department, including primary payroll oversight, retention of personnel records, and budget management. Additionally, the Assistant Director indirectly supervises residence hall professional/student staff and student leaders within Residential Life. Performs other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Director position is a full-time, 12-month, live-off appointment.

This position requires PA Criminal Check, Child Abuse Certifications and FBI Fingerprinting prior to the commencement of service.

Required Education and Experience\:
* Bachelors degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field.
* Four (4) years of progressive professional experience in residential life, student affairs and/or human resources
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities\:
* Exhibited work with diverse populations and developing inclusive communities and staff teams. 
* Experience coordinating and/or developing selection and training processes for undergraduate staff. 
* Experience in building collaborative partnerships with faculty, administrators, students, parents/families, and community partners.
* Demonstrated supervision, development, mentoring, and motivation of a diverse student staff team and ability to articulate these concepts to professional staff teams. 
* Demonstrated incident response and crisis management skills, including problem-solving and critical thinking.  
* Knowledge of fiscal management competencies.
* Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently. 
* Strong interpersonal, leadership, oral, and written communication skills.
* Must live within one hour of campus for on-call responsibilities and be able to occasionally work evenings and weekends.

Preferred\:
* Masters Degree and four years of progressive post-Masters professional experience in residential life, student affairs and/or human resources
* Understanding of competency-based approach to training and development.
* Understanding of a residential curriculum focused on facilitating student learning in a residence hall community.
* Professional experience as live-in staff member.
* Experience coordinating and/or developing selection and training processes for full-time staff

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
