Assistant Director, SEIU 1991

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

SEIU Healthcare Florida Local 1991 is an active, growing, progressive healthcare union
based in South Florida. The Local currently represents over 6,000 Registered Nurses,
Physicians, and Medical Professionals in South Florida. The Assistant Director under
the direct supervision and in teamwork with the Executive Director will have the
responsibility for administering, coordinating, and continuing to build this flagship
hospital local in Miami, Florida.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Director will work closely with all field staff and under the supervision of
the Executive Director. Such responsibilities include:
• Ability to lead a team of representatives/organizers to enforce contracts,
develop and grow member leaders and steward programs including expert
skills with disciplines, grievances, and arbitration processes
• Ability to assist with negotiations, train bargaining teams, develop
proposals, lead contract campaigns
• Ability to function as lead organizer internally and externally including new
hire orientation
• Coordination with International Union and other partners on local initiatives
including racial justice
• Ability to develop and implement the strategic plan of local in coordination
with the Executive Director
• Ability to assist in the development and implementation of a Political
Strategic Plan

The Assistant Director reports to the Executive Director.

EXPERIENCE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR REQUIRES:
• A strong commitment to organizing and empowering workers
• Ability to build and work as part of a team within a racially and culturally
diverse membership
• Strong organizational, administrative and strategic planning skills
• Experience with Labor/Management partnership work is preferred
• Experience coordinating organizing campaigns, representing workers,
supervising staff, and implementing leadership development programs
• Experience in healthcare, preferably acute care hospitals and preferably
with RNs
• Healthcare negotiations experience, preferably as a chief negotiator
• Experience as a rank-and-file activist is desirable
• Professional and friendly demeanor
• Flexibility in working hours
• Ability to work under extreme pressure and deadlines with thorough
attention to detail
• Self-motivated and ability to function independently

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

A valid driver’s license, car, and auto insurance are required as a condition of
employment.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Competitive salary depending on experience, health insurance, holidays, vacation,
pension, and car allowance.
