The University of Maryland, Baltimore’s Intercultural Leadership and Engagement unit within the Division of Student Affairs has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Director, Student Leadership Engagement. The Assistant Director, Student Leadership Engagement will utilize a social justice framework to develop and coordinate programming, experiences, and resources that enhance students’ professional practice, leadership, and skill development. The individual in this position will develop and manage innovative co-curricular educational programs, trainings, and services that facilitate student and student organization leadership development, interprofessional learning, and community building for all UMB students. By collaborating with colleagues from across the Division of Student Affairs, the University, and the Baltimore City community, the individual in this position will develop opportunities and build partnerships to meet unit goals and address barriers to student success.
The Assistant Director, Student Leadership Engagement will be responsible for providing assistance in the strategic direction and growth of leadership development programming at UMB, including the President’s Student Leadership Institute (PSLI), the President’s Symposium and White Paper Project, and the Learning Institute. The oversight of these programs will involve program evaluation and assessment, budget oversight, collaboration with divisional and campus partners, and management and facilitation of professional development opportunities.
The individual in this position will ensure that the program and service delivery model of this area align with the mission and goals of the Intercultural Leadership and Engagement unit and the Division of Student Affairs.
The Assistant Director, Student Leadership Engagement will independently manage or administer programs, processes, projects, or resources and may supervise, mentor, or coordinate the work of others (positions that supervise are responsible for service delivery, quality assurance, and employee performance).

Primary Duties:
Foster and promote the mission of the Intercultural Leadership and Engagement Center and the Division of Student Affairs.
Participate in the selection of the annual topic for the President’s Symposium White Paper Project, coordinate the recruitment and selection of the President’s Fellows, identify and provide support to faculty advisor(s), and support the President’s Fellows as they examine best-practices and craft recommendations that impact University culture.
Assist in the development and implementation of projects, including training materials, website content, communications, progress reports, promotional materials, recommendations, and other resources related to student and student organization leadership development, interprofessional experiences, civic and community engagement, and other co-curricular and diversity initiatives for the UMB community.
Provide leadership and guidance in the analysis, review, creation, and interpretation of policies and procedures specific to student organizations.
Facilitate the development of partnerships and programming for students.
Manage a budget and allocate resources accordingly.
Participate in strategic direction of the creation and management of asynchronous leadership development opportunities for students enrolled in off-campus and online degree programs and as a part of the overall programming model.
Manage and monitor an evaluation plan including data collection, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and the utilization of results to improve the quality of programs.
Supervise, develop, and evaluate student, para-professional and/or professional staff.
Work with various Intercultural Leadership and Engagement Center liaisons, campus partners, and stakeholders to provide comprehensive programs and services.
Maintain knowledge of trends and best practices in student affairs, student leadership development models, and technology.
Develop and maintain strong fiscal mechanisms to ensure efficient decision-making. Serve on various committees, such as Student Fee Advisory Board.
Consult the DSA Lead Marketing Specialist to develop a robust marketing, promotion, and communications plan for programs, initiatives, services, and resources.
Perform additional administrative duties that advance the mission of the Intercultural Center, Intercultural Leadership and Engagement unit, and the Division of Student Affairs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree in Education Administration or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience related to student development and/or progressive experience working with college students.
Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of experience in work coordination, training, or direct supervision. Experience in a leadership role involving direct oversight of students or staff in a higher education environment preferred.
Other:Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.
