Assistant Director, Technology Infrastructure

Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Director of Data and Technology, the Assistant Director designs, implements, and manages a robust Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment to support the academic and research needs of faculty and students. The Assistant Director  also develops and oversees a device support program for students, primarily run by students, in the College; and ensures alignment with institutional goals while staying ahead of emerging technologies that support innovation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and execute a strategic plan for the College’s technology infrastructure, with a focus on virtual and cloud-based environments.

Collaborate with University Information Technology on governance policies and procedures to ensure security, compliance, and reliability. 

Manage and scale the College’s virtualization system as needs change.

Maintain the system and assist with debugging issues.

Oversee access levels and credentials to ensure students have access to needed programs when appropriate.

Convene and lead a committee of faculty and staff from various departments to ensure system is best meeting student and research requirements.

Develop and manage a device support program for students.

Lead workshops and training sessions on development and use of current and emerging technologies related to virtualization.

Mentor and manage student employees at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Establish and maintain strong relationships with technology vendors and service providers.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Minimum of four years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing VDI environments or equivalent infrastructure.

Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Citrix.

Expertise in server and network administration.

Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python).

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in training and supporting students.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

PREFERRED:

Master’s degree in a related field or certifications in virtualization technologies (e.g., VCP-DCV, CCP-V).

Three years of experience managing cloud-based VDI solutions (e.g., Azure Virtual Desktop, AWS WorkSpaces).

Experience with endpoint management solutions (e.g., Microsoft Intune).
