Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The mission of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships at UNCG is to assist students in reaching their academic goals by serving as as primary advocates for students and families as we assist in removing barriers to receiving financial assistance. The Financial Aid Office works to meet these goals by embracing technology, reviewing and improving procedures, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Position Summary The Assistant Director for Loan Processing role requires the coordination and administration of the Federal Direct Loan Program, private education loan processing, award generation/revisions, verification of the appropriate disbursement of loan funds, and ensuring that loan eligibility is maintained throughout the financial aid process. This position is required to lead/contribute to the development and implementation of awarding guidelines and policies and procedures and serves as the primary subject matter expert and loan knowledge resource for the office. In addition to their supporting the office, the position is responsible for the training and supervision of one permanent SHRA employee (Loan and Accounting Senior Financial Aid Counselor). Oversight of the Loan programs is a highly compliance-related position where there is a high likely of a state/federal audit review. Accuracy, expert knowledge of state/federal regulations, problem solving skill, and an aptitude for attention to detail are critical skills in this role. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in financial aid, higher education, or a related field. Percentage Of Time 35 Key Responsibility Leadership and Oversight of the Federal Direct Loan Program Essential Tasks The Assistant Director for Loan Processing handles the processing, certification, and management of UNCG’s Federal Education Loan Programs. This responsibility entails determining student loan eligibility, the origination and certification of loan records, loan disbursement, and monthly loan reconciliation. This position is also responsible for routine electronic transmission of federal loan and MPN files, quality assurance, and annual review associated with these processes. Establishing and maintaining general policies and procedures regarding the application and eligibility of all federal direct educational student loans. Responsible for the annual creation and review of academic year loan periods and loan origination fees, per loan type, within Banner. The position is required to provide executive summary reporting for the loan program. This position is also a direct liaison with the Cashiers Office in the disbursement and retrieval of awarded federal loan funds. This position administers the routine automated transmission of aid funds and is responsible for quality assurance and review in this process. Percentage Of Time 25 Key Responsibility Ensure Regulatory Compliance Essential Tasks This position handles the review and resolution of student issues involving the enforcement of semester and annual aggregate loan limits and ensures compliance with all federal direct lending requirements. Additionally, the Assistant Director will review and resolve any loan overpayment, default, and medical related discharge statuses. Responsibility for executing a monthly review of non-cashed student refund checks and coordinating with appropriate areas, both within and outside of the office, to return funds as required by law. Percentage Of Time 20 Key Responsibility Private Educational Loan Processing Essential Tasks The position is responsible for the intake, processing, review, and administration of private education loans. This duty entails the determination of student private loan eligibility, certification of approved loans, confirming receipt of funds from lenders and their subsequent disbursement. Serve as the point of contact for private lenders for the resolution of issues arising from private educational loan processing. General problem solving and the ability to establish and the office’s private education loan policies and procedures are required for this position. The position is also responsible for routine electronic transmissions of private educational loan files, assessing quality assurance standards, and the annual review associated with all private educational loan processes. Percentage Of Time 15 Key Responsibility Supervision and Training Essential Tasks Responsible for supervising the Loan and Accounting Senior Financial Aid Counselor position and the training of office staff and campus partners regarding loan policy, procedures, and regulations. The position must remain abreast of current and future regulatory changes regarding federal and private loan lending/eligibility. Additionally, the timely update of training, policies, and procedures to account for all loan regulatory changes is required.
