Payroll Services at The University of Texas at Austin is responsible for producing and distributing payroll for approximately 29,000 employees. Purpose

Provide leadership to Payroll Services in coordination with the Director and other payroll leaders by managing and supervising staff to ensure quality service to the university. Provide advanced management skills and develops direct reports as follows:

ResponsibilitiesOversee the Payment Team to ensure timely and accurate employee payments and quality service to the university. Ensure coverage for all critical processes on time-sensitive tasks to meet payroll processing deadlines. Provide direction and oversight for team responsibilities.Provide direction and oversight to the Financials Team within Payroll Services to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures and state and federal laws and regulations. Oversee payroll related banking activities and ensure payroll related accounting activities are accurate and timely. Manage the overall process by assigning and monitoring workloads to ensure deadlines are met.Develop, implement and maintain policies and business processes to support the unit’s activities and to enhance and maintain the effectiveness of unit operations. Develop and support long term strategic initiatives to improve efficiency and support departmental goals. Work collaboratively with functional and technical staff both within payroll and across university operational units to identify, test, and implement enhancements to existing processes and systems. Oversee project implementation, provide training and communicate information to university community.Communicate and disseminate payroll policies and procedures to internal and external staff, administrative leadership and campus leaders using a variety of different communication strategies including presentations, reports, electronic correspondence and web content.Other related functions as assigned. Overtime expected during peak processing periods.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in payroll, accounting, or human resources. Understanding of payroll environment and applicable state and federal laws governing payroll administration. Strong decision-making abilities and leadership experience.  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision. Ability to manage and meet tight deadlines. Advanced problem-solving skills. Experience employing diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality in all business matters. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting with experience in government finance administration.  Master’s degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  History of supervisory experience and working experience in a higher education and/or government payroll environment.  Project Management and Workday experience.


Salary Range

$115,000
