Assistant Director & Actuarial Associate, Spectrum Actuarial

The position is part of the Spectrum actuarial team which provides support for $2.2B of Commercial Multi-Peril business for The Hartford’s Small Commercial business segment. Our Spectrum BOP product is proprietary to The Hartford and is regarded as the market leader in the industry. Additionally, the team supports the growth and development of Small Commercial’s Multi-Peril E&S offering. As we operate in both a fluid and competitive industry, we continuously innovate the line and create product / coverage improvements that meet the ever-changing needs of our customers and to remain ahead of our competitors.

This role will partner closely with the Small Commercial Territory Actuarial team and the Product Management organizations. The Spectrum team operates in a matrix-type style that allows us to effectively support business needs, foster innovation, and provide opportunities for individual development. The candidate will be expected to participate in multiple work streams which will be tailored to the candidate’s skill set and interests where appropriate.

Responsibilities may include:

Development of internal modeled rate level indications to inform product rate strategy

Maintain tools/analytics, using enhanced statistical tools, such as R and Shiny applications allowing us to monitor each component loss ratio performance (e.g. loss and premium trends) at the deepest grain

Continuous evolution of Spectrum class plan through improvements to pricing segmentation via additional granularity and new variable introduction

Advance our analytic and monitoring capabilities for the E&S product offering

Evaluate new and existing opportunities in the E&S space

Think creatively to enhance long-standing actuarial methodology using more contemporary techniques

Assist with the implementation of pricing for new coverages and products

Results driven with commitment to meeting deadlines

Attends to detail and manages multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in mathematics, actuarial science or related field of study.

Recent ACAS preferred – candidates with actuarial experience not pursuing exams will be considered

Minimum 2 years of property and casualty insurance actuarial experience. Businessowners is a plus, but not necessary

Knowledge of actuarial pricing techniques

Demonstrated technical/analytical skills; proficiency in Excel required and experience with R/Python/SQL preferred.

Effective oral and written communications skills.

Independently motivated; constantly looks for areas to add value.

Teamwork skills including ability to effectively collaborate with individuals at different organizational levels.

Note: This can be a full time, remote work opportunity.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$108,800 - $163,200
