Assistant Director - Disability Services Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this Job Posting Details Position Information Job Title Assistant Director - Disability Services Full Time/Part Time Full Time FLSA Exempt General Job Description This is a professional position responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing and providing of accommodations and services for students with disabilities. Responsible for coordinating semester schedules of service providers with students’ semester schedules to provide accommodations and assigning qualified service providers to students on a semester and daily basis; reviewing students’ semester plans and accommodation request forms; and assisting with student needs and concerns regarding classroom accommodations. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director, Disability Services. Essential Job Functions + Meets with students to evaluate needs and concerns regarding classroom accommodations each semester and communicates decisions to faculty and staff. + Conducts individual intake interviews with prospective students and parents to discuss history of accommodations. + Serves on documentation review committee. + Communicates with faculty and staff to resolve accommodation/accessibility concerns. + Evaluates efficacy of services and accommodations, proposes changes, and conducts follow-up meetings. + Serves as advocate for students with disabilities to various levels of the university community. + Selects, supervises, recruits, and evaluates the work of service providers. + Matches students and service providers based on student limitations and schedules. + Oversees alternate format production of class texts, including Braille and negotiates with textbook publishers and faculty to obtain text copy for alternate textbook formats. + Documents student contacts. + Oversees and approves timecards and payroll records for Disability Services ( SFA ) and Texas Workforce Commission ( TWC ) contracts. + Oversees employee service provider files and assists in managing student files. + Researches and updates database to include new students each semester. + Resolves issues between students and providers. + Assists with developing and presenting awareness programs for the university community. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. + Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures. + Knowledge of disabilities and how they affect university life. + Knowledge of current laws applying to post-secondary service for students with disabilities. + Skill in the use of computer applications including spreadsheet, database and word processing software. + Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. + Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students and the general public. + Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions. + Ability to train and supervise others. + Ability to work effectively and patiently with students. + Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students. Physical Demands Required Education Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, business, or a related field is required. Related experience may be substituted for required education on a basis set forth by the Department of Human Resources. Required Experience and Training Three years of related experience is required. Experience working with persons with disabilities is required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree is preferred. Experience working with college students is preferred.
