Description

The Assistant Director for Student Organizations & Governance plays a pivotal role within the Student Involvement, Leadership, and Transitions Office at Emory University. Reporting to the Associate Director for Student Organizations and Governance, this position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational development, leadership training, and transitional support for student leaders. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of student development theories, and a passion for empowering student leaders to succeed.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops, implements, and assesses educational, leadership, multicultural, and social programs, including, but not limited to: Student Involvement Fair, STEER Team (Involvement Ambassadors), Advisor Workshop Series, Presidents' Institute, New Organization Chartering and Onboarding Process, SOAR (Student Organization Achievement and Recognition) Awards, etc.Serves as the primary advisor for the Student Government Association, and provides necessary guidance, mentoring, and support to the students elected to serve in the executive, legislative, and judicial roles in student government.Supports student self-governance and oversees the programs and procedures that assist SGA in strategic planning, membership and officer transition, and organizational budget and forecasting.Develops and facilitates ongoing training, education, and communication with Recognized Student Organizations (RSO). Topics to include but not limited to organization development, leadership development, financial management, event planning, risk management, and conflict resolution.Collaborates with campus partners to provide comprehensive transitional support for student organization leaders during key transition periods, such as leadership turnovers and organizational restructuring.Advises and mentor student leaders and executive boards on organizational best practices, leadership strategies, event planning, membership recruitment and retention, and conflict resolution techniques.Establishes and enhances resources, including online training modules, leadership development programs, and organizational templates to support student organizations.Recruits, selects, trains, develops, and advises STEER Team and supervises student leaders/employees including designing and implementing annual and ongoing trainings and retreats and meeting regularly with student leaders/employees.Conducts needs assessments and evaluations to assess the effectiveness of organization training and development initiatives, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.Serves as a liaison between student organizations and campus resources, providing guidance on navigating university policies, procedures, and resources.Supports online organization management, organization registration, contract review, event registration, and RSO Leader training.Stays informed about current trends and best practices in organization development, leadership education, and student affairs to continuously enhance program offerings.Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field, and two years of full-time experience working in student affairs, leadership development, or related areas within higher education, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Strong understanding of student development theories and their application to leadership development and organization management.Experience in designing and delivering educational programs and workshops for diverse student populations.Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to inclusive communities, intercultural communication and competence, and cultural humility.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
