'The Assistant Director of Nursing in the Acute Division participates in developing and implementing goals of assigned division and in evaluating progress toward the goals.
Participates in selecting and hiring staff in the division; supervises division staff, initiating disciplinary action, including terminations; provides input into performance appraisal of employees recommending promotions, raises, etc.
Responsible for division staffing plan, adapting work schedules for unit employees to ensure appropriate staffing levels and staffing mix are maintained; communicates staffing needs and scheduling requirements to Clinical Directors and appropriate clerical staff for implementation and follows up to ensure staffing is appropriate.
Ensures safe and professional patient care by enforcing and monitoring compliance to professional standards, identifying clinical and educational needs of staff; recommends methods for improving staff competence and patient care and assists in developing, implementing and evaluating programs.
Through meetings, inservices or other established means of communication, provides information to unit staff for therapeutic and effective patient care management; identifies and puts into place appropriate monitors of patient care delivery.
Participates in the quality assurance/quality improvement program for unit by identifying patient care issues and assisting in implementing PI and QA monitors.
Investigates and communicates on all unit occurrences.
Acts as liaison between unit, Clinical Directors and ancillary departments to resolve problems and ensure quality of patient care is maintained.
Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
Provides information to Clinical Director to assist in developing departmental budgets; recommends methods to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness of unit operations.
Serves as resource for clinical and management information models.
Assists Clinical Director in developing standard formats for fiscal, materials, and human resource management development and planning.
Assists management in developing cost accounting methodology and model to enable the Medical Center to determine costs of nursing care and other direct costs and to provide information for Medical Center planning and decisions (e.g., pertinent elements of patient care, labor, non-labor, and indirect allocation).
Attends monthly nursing office meetings.
