UCLA’s Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior has approximately 170 full-time primary faculty appointees comprising five faculty title series (Senate and Non-Senate), over 140-affiliated faculty in without salary appointments, 140 appointees in the Professional Researcher and Project Scientist series, and approximately 500 faculty members in the Volunteer Clinical Professor series. The functions of department’s Academic Personnel Office involve recommending, developing, implementing, administering, coordinating, and / or evaluating Academic Human Resources policies, labor contracts, statutes, programs, and procedures covering one or more of the following: academic recruitment, appointment, and advancement; compensation and salary administration; faculty welfare programs; visa procurement; benefits; payroll; training and development; faculty misconduct; and faculty equity.
Reporting to the CAO, this position manages and continuously develops a team of Academic Personnel staff professionals and administrative support staff to manage the academic review processes for the five faculty series at UC medical schools; other academic titles belonging to the Academic Researchers/UAW 5810 collective bargaining unit; and Visiting Scholars and Professors — with and without salary. Responsible for overseeing ensuring timely and policy compliant preparation of 180-200 academic dossiers annually, including merits, promotions, accelerations, change-in-series, 4th year appraisals, merit equity reviews, and other academic actions.
The position also administers all phases of the academic recruitment process: Coordinating the academic search process, including placement of ads, drafting search plans in consultation with division chair and organizational research unit directors and Associate Chair of Academic Affairs, guiding Search Chairs in conducting initial screening of materials of materials submitted and the preparation of Search Committee reports and recommendations using UCLA ACADEMIC RECRUIT, coordinating correspondences with external parties and reviewers, and overseeing the resulting appointment cases, including the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion report.
