Required Education:

4 Year Degree The Assistant Director of Athletics Communications will play a pivotal role in shaping and elevating communications and messaging in the VCU Athletics Communications Department across various platforms, including, but not limited to the web, social media and print. This position will serve as the primary communications contact for VCU's baseball program. Additional sport assignments are to be determined, but will include at least one fall sport. All position responsibilities are performed in support of VCU Athletics' mission to win conference and national championships, provide a first-class student-athlete experience, serve as a source of pride for the University and community and cultivate graduates who excel as leaders.

Typical Duties

Manage the day-to-day communications needs of assigned sports programs, including press releases and promotion via social media and web. Managing media requests, including interviews. Pitching feature stories to local media and/or in-house platforms. Gameday management, including tracking of statistics and staffing assignments for primary sports. Assist in the gameday staffing of VCU's other athletics programs as needed. Layout and content management of VCU Men's Basketball gameday program. Record-keeping and archiving of data for assigned sports, as well as photo library. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant AD for Athletics Communications or Executive Associate AD.

Minimum hiring standards:

Bachelor's degree; Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or committment to do so as a staff member at VCU; Strong writing skills and understanding of Associated Press Style;  Experience using prominent social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Minimum of three (3) years' experience in communications and public relations or a related field required, preferably at the collegiate level

Preferred hiring standards:

Strong graphic design and/or video abilities; Able to display competence with essential software InDesign, Photoshop, StatCrew and NCAA Live Stats
