With over 650 student-athletes participating in UW's 22 sports programs, the department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to providing student-athletes with the ability to compete for national and conference championships while working toward a degree from one of the world's leading public research universities. Job Description: Responsibilities:

Compliance Sport Contact (40%): Serve as a sport contact for assigned programs. Provide rules interpretations, file waivers, and implement compliance education plans for coaches and student-athletes for assigned sports programs.

Eligibility and Admissions (40%): Independently review and determine initial and transfer eligibility of incoming student-athletes by evaluating transcripts with regards to NCAA and UW admissions regulations. Counsel prospective student-athletes and coaches on NCAA eligibility and admission requirements. Write initial eligibility and transfer waivers as needed. Prepare freshman and transfer eligibility reports. Provide accurate interpretive information regarding initial eligibility. Monitor incoming and continuing student-athlete initial eligibility and amateurism. Counsel students and coaches regarding amateurism situations. Serve as a contact with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Eligibility Center and UW admissions office.

Monitoring (5%): Independently monitor and assist with general office procedures for multiple areas of compliance. Those areas include Bylaw 13 (e.g. official visits, phone logs), Bylaw 12 (prize money, outside competition, etc.), and student-athlete employment.

Other duties as assigned (15%). Assist with special projects as assigned. Work closely with athletic department staff members and outside entities such as the ticket office, business office, housing and food services, regarding compliance areas of responsibility. Work on nights and weekends may be require to fulfill compliance monitoring duties and gameday responsibibilities.

This requires highly specialized knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and how they integrate with institutional guidelines. Must be able to identify and resolve problems and issues in a timely manner using independent judgment and decision-making abilities. Assist with NCAA and conference rules interpretations. Assist in providing rules education for coaches, student-athletes, administrators, and representatives of athletics interests.

Work directly with ICA staff, coaches, and student-athletes to promote a positive compliance environment, maintaining compliance with the University, Conference and NCAA regulations, federal and state laws.

Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, conference, the State of Washington, and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of work experience. Applicant must have a working knowledge of NCAA regulations and NCAA systems (e.g. LSDBi, Compliance Assistant). Must have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to assume a variety of independent responsibilities. Individual must be able to work under pressure in a busy and diverse environment handling confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Applicant must have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and database applications.

 

Desired:

Post-graduate degree desirable. Working knowledge of ARMS compliance software. Work experience on a college campus or in college athletics
