Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Development, Special Events plays a key leadership role in advancing the fundraising and development goals of SCO Family of Services. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the development team to strategize, implement, and manage comprehensive fundraising initiatives. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership, communication, and fundraising skills to drive growth and sustainability for the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Chief Development Officer and Development Team to develop and execute fundraising strategies to achieve annual fundraising goals. Manage and steward a portfolio of major donors, including individuals and corporate partners, to cultivate and strengthen relationships. Identify and research prospective donors and funding opportunities and prepare compelling proposals and fundraising appeals. Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of major fundraising events, including the Treiber Memorial Golf Outing, Inspiration Ball, and Madonna Heights Golf Classic, ensuring seamless event logistics, sponsor engagement, and attendee experience. Coordinate and support donor cultivation events, meetings, and outreach activities to engage and solicit support from key stakeholders. Oversee the development and execution of donor stewardship plans, ensuring timely acknowledgment and recognition of donors. Collaborate with the communications team to create fundraising materials, including donor appeals, newsletters, impact reports, and other collateral. Utilize donor management software Raiser’s Edge NXT to maintain accurate records of donor interactions, proposals, and communications. Monitor and analyze fundraising progress, prepare regular reports for management and board meetings, and provide strategic recommendations based on data insights. Stay informed about trends and best practices in fundraising and philanthropy to enhance fundraising strategies and donor engagement efforts. Supervise and mentor development staff, interns, and volunteers as needed.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Communications, or related field (or equivalent work experience) Proven experience 3 – 5 years in fundraising, donor relations, or development within a non-profit organization, with a track record of successfully securing major gifts and grants. Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading fundraising campaigns and initiatives. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate the mission and impact of the organization effectively. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, board members, volunteers, and community stakeholders. Proficiency in donor management software, Raiser’s Edge NXT strongly preferred, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, with strong organizational and time management skills. Commitment to the mission and values of SCO Family of Services.
