Assistant Director of Educational Enhancement, Athletics
As a part of the Ingram Center for Student-Athlete Success, the Assistant Director of Educational Enhancement is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the tutoring program. In addition, this position will serve as a learning specialist for a caseload of student-athletes.

Vanderbilt University’s Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship, and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conference's only private school. The university fields 17 varsity teams (6 men's teams and 11 women's teams), 15 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.

  Duties and Responsibilities Direct the implementation and oversight of the tutoring program  Supervise and oversee tutorial staff  Manage the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and evaluation of tutors  Coordinate and implement required trainings around tutoring best practices and strategies as well as Retain/Teamworks and NCAA guidelines  Provide tutoring reports and information to Student Services staff  Communicate regularly with tutors  Manage payroll for all tutors and staff within the tutoring program Communicate appropriately with campus tutorial departments and increase collaboration opportunities  Work with all members of the Student Services staff regarding tutoring needs and tutoring schedules  Assist in the overall implementation of the Educational Enhancement program, including serving as a learning specialist for a caseload of student-athletes Coordinate, conduct, and score academic assessments to screen for learning challenges of incoming student-athletes  Design and implement academic success plans for qualifying student-athletes in collaboration with Student Services Coordinators  Determine the need for diagnostic evaluation/testing by reviewing standardized testing records and personal observation of each assigned student-athlete Work with individuals and groups of student-athletes to teach and develop successful academic skills in the areas of reading, writing, organization, time management, testing, learning strategies, and other general study skills Communicate appropriately with the University Counseling Center, Center for Student Well-Being, Student Access Services, and other campus departments offering learning support Collect and report academic data as needed  Monitor evening study halls as assigned Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes in terms of upholding integrity, cooperation, and self-reflection while stressing the importance and benefits of education Work in a cooperative, team atmosphere to support student-athletes’ needs Comply with all NCAA and SEC rules and regulations Work in conjunction with the department’s compliance office to stay current on all rules and regulations to ensure we are operating with the highest level of integrity Other duties as assigned by the Director of Educational Enhancement, Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services, or Director of the Ingram Center for Student-Athlete Success

 

Qualifications

A Master’s Degree is preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree is required.  Minimum 2-3 years of full-time experience with an academic unit in athletics is preferred.  Experience developing, evaluating, and implementing a tutoring program is preferred.  Organized, detail oriented and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision is required.  High emotional intelligence and ability to communicate effectively is required.  Knowledge of NCAA Division I and SEC rules and regulations is required.
