Job Description:

The College of Medicine seeks an experienced financial professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Finance. This pivotal role oversees the daily operations of the Dean's Office budgets, coordinates financial reporting, and manages budgeting functions. Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance, the Manager will perform in-depth financial analyses, design financial policies, and collaborate on the College’s annual budget development and monitoring. This role includes managing State General Revenue (SGR) processes, ensuring maximization of over $60M in annual funds, and supporting Dean's Commitments management across the College of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:

State General Revenue (SGR) Management Oversee recording, reporting, and reconciliation of SGR exceeding $60M annually. Ensure proper SGR fund utilization and variance reporting to leadership. Prepare state reports for financial reviews and liaise with departments and main campus. Financial Management, Reporting, & Analysis Manage the Dean’s Office budget process, analyze financial data, and support decision-making. Monitor budgets against actuals, investigate variances, and prepare financial reports. Dean’s Office Budget Development Develop and manage a budget exceeding $100M across 30 divisions. Provide budget insights and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Dean’s Commitments Management Coordinate commitments to departments, maintain documentation, and manage billing. Prepare monthly reports and ad-hoc analyses for leadership. Halifax Health Financials Coordinate financials, including budgeting, invoicing, and reporting.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and four years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. 7-10 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in higher education or healthcare. Expertise in budget development, financial analysis, and variance reporting. Experience with enterprise financial systems (e.g., PeopleSoft). Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Proven leadership and project management skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and manage sensitive financial information. Knowledge of university financial policies and state funding mechanisms is highly desirable. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
