This posting is for an Engineering Manager I that serves as the Assistant Division Maintenance Engineer for Division Seven. This position is located in Guilford County. This position will assist the Division Maintenance Engineer in the planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring of all maintenance operation activities in the Division to provide a safe and efficient highway system. Position will assist senior division management regarding specialized reporting to Secretary and Chief Engineer offices. Position will provide interpretation of NCDOT policies and procedures and may represent the Division with policy and meetings with public, elected officials, environment agencies, and planning organizations such as MPOs or RPOs. Position will manage maintenance related funding and funding requests outside of General Maintenance Reserve (GMR), as well as provide technical guidance and administrative assistance for engineers across the Division. Position will assist CMEs in the development of pavement preservation and resurfacing plans as well as entering/monitoring the Division of Highway Maintenance Improvement Program (HMIP) in conjunction with entering/monitoring the Division Roadway Maintenance Improvement Program (RMIP). The position will be responsible for monitoring Division Project Planning Projections and other programmatic requirements. This position will also represent the Division to media as needed. This position will plan and coordinate with other Division-wide unit managers in Maintenance, Construction, and Project Development. Responsibilities will include management of the Division Traffic Services Unit, Triad Regional Traffic Management Center (IMAP), Division Equipment Unit, and the Division Roadside Environmental Unit as well as assisting the Division Maintenance Engineer during emergency response operations during inclement weather events. Monitoring and developing Spot-Safety projects within the Division Traffic Services Unit, developing equipment needs within the Division Maintenance Units in conjunction with equipment utilization, in addition to the management and development of the Division Roadside Environmental program. Receiving and responding to customers, both internal and external, facilitating solutions to meet the needs of all parties, as applicable.

+ Knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, maintenance practices and theories used in maintenance of all roadway assets and experience planning, developing, designing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects, independently or with minimal supervision.
+ Experience in performing engineering analysis and preparing technical, statistical, and managerial reports.
+ Experience supervising, motivating, counseling, and training other engineers and technicians.
+ Experience collaborating with others in finding solutions to controversial or sensitive matters that establish precedents.
+ Experience reviewing engineered plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction and engineering principles and maintenance standards, codes, designs, and statutes.
Additional Expectations:
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are needed for this position. Prefer experience with SAP/R3.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of six years progressive engineering experience including four years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
