We have an opening for an Assistant Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance Superintendent to work in partnership with leadership and employees at our Stevenson Mill in Stevenson, Alabama. Stevenson is centrally located between Chattanooga, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama. This is a unionized facility with approximately 400+ employees.
Experience ownership firsthand as you assist with planning, organizing and supervising the work of the Electrical and Instrumentation department employees in the construction, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical motors, instrumentation systems, process controls, motor control centers, and all distribution and communication lines at a world class corrugated medium paper production facility.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
As the Assistant Maintenance Superintendent, you will help lead and drive continuous improvement for the Paper Machines, Power and Recovery, Wood yard and Pulp mill areas. As Assistant Superintendent, you will ensure that every level of the organization under your direction, is fully engaged in safety, equipment/process availability and reliability improvement.Proven leadership skills, building teams and ability to motivate others are key competencies in this position.Must be open to and capable of implementing change and to drive for results through setting clear expectations and auditing for desired results.Must be capable of utilizing resources for maximum effectiveness in a multi-skilled environment. Develop and manage the Maintenance budget under your areas of responsibility.Sustain the Core Team roles and responsibilities with regard to the WMS, PrM, ECCM, and RCA process.Effective Shutdown Planning and Execution is a key aspect of the Superintendent role.Supervises, plans, organizes, assigns, and inspects the work of Electrical and Instrumentation DepartmentPlans and develops work schedules, equipment usage schedules, priority of electrical and instrumentation expenditures and procedures for equipment maintenanceOversees development of new methods and procedures to increase effectiveness and efficiencyOversees all other operations in the department including the approval and review of contracts; purchase and replacement of equipment, tools, and other inventory; purchasing of departmental items; development of a departmental budget and monitoring of expenditures; monitoring of electric and instrumentation needsManages the preventive maintenance of critical electrical and instrumentation systems – transformers, switchgear, breakers and relays and measuring devices, transmitters and calibration frequenciesDirects responses to emergency service calls concerning power outages and electrical and instrumentation problemsOversees or arranges staff training and developmentEnsures and enforces adherence to established safety standards, including NFPA-70EReviews preliminary plans of proposed new projectsAccountable for the on-site management of trade contractorsMaintains time, work order, material, equipment and other electrical and instrumentation maintenance and calibration records and submits reports.Ensures budgeting guidelines are met; prioritizes shop expenditures to stay within budget and assists in preparation of capital and operations budgetsCultivates a working relationship with managers, supervisors, fellow employees, and customers/clients encouraging a cooperative environmentAssists in the development and implementation of department goals and objectivesDevelops, communicates and directs deployment of mill’s Electrical SMS topicOversees ISO critical equipment calibration requirementsPerforms other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed:
(Basic Requirements):
HS Diploma or GED equivalent with 5 plus years of experience in the manufacturing industry in a Maintenance or Engineering role
(Preferred Requirements):
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related fieldSupervisory experience in the E&I fieldExperience in selection and development of direct reportsExperience working with an organized labor unionTraining and/or experience with OSHA regulations, LOTO, confined space entry, government/corporate regulations, and requirements for tank & vessel integrity, welding methods, inspections, “R” Stamp requirements, NDT, thermography/infrared applications and JDE of other CMMS systems.Computer skills on a variety of platforms, Microsoft Office suite, scheduling software, etc.Good Organizational, communication, documentation and formal/informal reporting skillsAbility to work extended hours on outages, call duty, etc. to support a 24/7 operation.Ability to perform multiple tasks while managing projects
